No idle-up when starting cold engine

Hi. I'm brand new to the forum. I have a 1989 pickup 4X4 with the 3vze and automatic transmission. It used to idle up when the engine is cold, but now it struggles a bit to start and doesn't idle up. It idles fine and starts easily when the engine is warm. I put in new plugs recently which helped with power and it has had the usual maintenance - oil changes, air cleaner, timing belt with water pump, fluids, etc. It's a great truck and has 158K miles. Any advice?

If it's temp related, I would eliminate doubt on the temp sender cleanliness and connections by cleaning the senders AND THEIR MOUNTING THREADS down to bare, shiny metal. That should be done every 30 years

Then check if the fuel pressure-up system and the vsv is working. We installed fuel pressure gage piggybacked on CSI on our 22R-E's to aid that: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...l#post52312190

Thanks! Regarding the temp senders, if my temp gauge is working, does that mean that the senders are working, or is that unrelated?

There are other temp sensors that send signal to ECU, to Cold-Start Injector, etc. Sorry, I don't know location on the 3.0.
Need to clean them all for free every 30 years

Likely that there are issues with the idle air valve on the throttle body.

All the temperature stuff is located right next to each other on the VZE, from what I recall its at the center rear on top of the engine. A great place to work if you have thick hands.

LOL! I have skinny hands, yet I'm glad I have a 22R-E. I saw how tight the the 3.0 is on Redeth's. I would not even think of working on it - LOL!
