No cranky..lacking juice? 88 4x4

problem,my truck will not crank..unless i hook up the jump/charger and a extra battery and maybe it will engage the starter without clicking a 100 times? i changed the starter one time(used)..i checked the ground and thats fine..is it the starter? the truck will click but will not crank.is it my starter?

story:when i was changing my starter,i broke a rusty fuel line,as i was fixing the fuel line i broke my clutch pressure line(rusted).this is fun.

Have someone crank it over while you bang on the starter solenoid and see if it fires. If that helps, then consider a new solenoid, but also check wires too.

My truck occasionally will just click when trying to start it, and banging on the starter usually makes it start. Should I go ahead and get a new starter?
