Cool, thanks guys.

I was actuallt just debating not hooking the a/c back up. I live at about 10,000' in CO so I never need it.

Is it that simple, just don't put it back on?

yeah that open end that you see just remains open and dangles straight down

when the AC is on, condensation is produced. it accumulates and drips out that hose and onto the ground under the truck

no it's supposed to be off, it's to drain condensation from the ???? evap ?????, just make sure it's pointed down and not dripping over parts.

Yep, it will stay off, dangling down, thanks a lot, this place is REALLY helpful!

If I do not put the AC unit back on, leave the 2 hoses for it unplugged, and obviously dont put the belt on, will that cause me any problems?

removing my AC unit

I just finished a rebuild on my 1988 22RE. I want to take the AC unit off b/c I never use it. (I live in Colorado @ 10,000').

I see it's on its own separate belt that doesn't power anything else.
It's been discharged and I have the two hoses that go into the unit hanging down as well as the wire to the harness.

Can I just leave everything unplugged and run it, then eventually cut the hoses out?

Ok, off it goes.

Why should I leave the bracket on?

I think there are some bolts that go through the timing chain cover, but I was just going to buy shorter ones.

Unless you got the right length bolts for certain just leave on the bracket.

I'd put a new bearing in the compressor pulley and verify the clutch clearance (which is what I'm doing currently) and convert it to oba. IIRC there are a few bolts that go thru the timing cover...

OK, so I will double check the bolts that go through the cover.

BTW, what does convert to OBA mean?

OBA= On Board Air. You use your AC compressor as an air compressor. With a little plumbing and an air tank, in line oiler and a dryer (not sure on the dryer) you can air up the tires, run air tools etc.... and it's freaking cool since everything is in the factory location.

I looked into this a while back but never got around to messing with it. I might need AC this summer in New Mexico.

Newbies first rebuild and started! NOW I NEED A LITTLE HELP!

OK. So I just did my rebuild, I've never done anything more than a timing chain. I followed everthing to the tee in the manuals and double checked it.

It started right up, but is shaking (the whole motor) and seems to have low RPM's. Giving it a little steady gas will make the shaking stop and it sounds great. I've already maxed out the idle adjust screw.

Where should I start with the fine tuning?

Or do I need to go do a break in drive first?

ANY help, advice, comments appreciated.

Chris

Timing?

TDC was set correct from cam to crank.

Had to do some trial and error on the distributor timing.

Should I just do a break in drive and see if it improves?

ANY help, advice, comments appreciated.
