Newbie with knock sensor wire question
I have an 89 3vze. The knock sensor wire that goes from the ECM to the pigtail has gotten frayed. Can I just splice the wire and be ok? Do I need to use shielded wire? If I use shielded wire do I need to make sure the shielded part has continuity also? Trying to figure out if I can just splice the inner portion of the wire and not worry about the shielded part. Thanks

I guess you're trying to avoid pulling the intake plenum and manifold to replace the wire?

He's talking about the wire from the pigtail back....Right?
I did it to mine, rewired it directly to the ecu. I did not use shielded wire... what I did... I wired the actual signal portion of the wire the knk port on the ecm, and ran the shield to the neg batt post. no code 52 anymore.

Thanks Team420. I was talking about the wire from pigtail to ECM. I recently bought this truck and did an engine rebuild. I replaced the pigtail harness that goes under the manifold, but I did not replace the sensor. I am just trying to rule everything else out before I pull the top part of the motor back off. I`ll have to trace the wire back to the ECM and check continuity. Does anyone know which pin it is on the ECM plug?
