Yeah, I was also curious about the 3L in your trucks. This is the motor I've been looking at putting into my '86. I know a lot of people complain about them being gutless, unless turboed. But I am wondering what your experiences have been with this motor in highly modified trucks?

yeah mine has the Head-ach rack too. that's sweet that it has HILUX on it... i have the HILUX rubber floor mats and toyota vent viser's. original toyota stuff is awesome. i wonder if i'd be able to get one in black. there doesn't happen to be a part number on it is there? and i have slider's too. don't know any one that would want side steps.

i haven't really noticed it smoking. on start up it blows nice puff out but haven't noticed belowing black smoke from my tail pipe when driving. some proably come's out. plus i also haven't drive'n my truck in 7 months. although i'm sure you could make one of the inline-6 turbo diesel one's do it. i've seen thouse blow a bit.

well the 3L in my opinion is okay. it's a 4 cylinder naturally asspirated diesel. honestly it's got some alright torque cuz i can let off the clutch slowly in 1st gear in 2wd and it will crawl with out stalling. but i also have 35's and 5.29 yukon gears. i think my truck accellerates quick for what it is. it lags go'n up long hills. ya you could turbo it. i know somone running 15 psi into his 3L and he says it's got way more power. the clutch actually started to slip. i want to keep the longevity of my truck, so i probably won't turbo it. i find it fine the way it is. my truck is my daily driver(well not at this very moment),but it's got enough power for me.

i've been looking online for a box cover similar to yours and have also gone to an apolstry shop. just wondering how does the cover get secured around the head-ach rack? and do you have a problem with water pooling on it at all?

Finally on the road again! Must feel great to get behind the wheel again. Bodywork looks pretty damn good too. Hey, did you break a window visor (pass side)? My dad has the same kind on his Cruiser and one broke also.

The cover is fitted around the headache rack (kinda like little slots for each bar) with loops in the end and a nylon rod slides right across. Kinda different, but all you have to do to remove it is slide the rod out. Then you have to "sew" it back thru the loops to reinstall. But, you don't have to take it off cuz there are straps to tie it up after you roll it to the cab.

Water does pool...and snow for that matter. It holds quite a bit a water because it lacks crossbars to support it (these could be rigged up if needed). The snow freezes into one big piece of ice then I just push it off the edge. Sounds like a bunch of glass hittin' the ground! If the box is empty I just leave it rolled up. Overall, I like the look of it....kinda military/UN style with the rope around the bed hooks.

cr@ves4wheelin;

thanks for the kind words. i don't know where you can find oem stuff for a hilux. you might have to try aussie site's or the uk. check out ebay austraillia. picked up some corner lights from there. as for a head ach rack? mine's apart of my box. it doesn't come off unless you cut it.
