new toyota truck

hi everyone just got a new truck its a 1989 toyota truck dlx x cab.The truck has 176,000 miles on it and just changed the water pump and timing belt and false water pump too.Does anyone know what i should change next? The motor isnt real fast and the truck lags is this normal with these trucks. It does have bigger tires on it 31 10 15 and a 6 inch lift.i just check to see if it had any codes and all is good there.well let me know thanks greg

Well Let me just say Welcome to Yota Tech and grats on buying a toyota lol.

Umm those had the 22r or the 22re engines in them if I'm not mistaken. we call they the 3.slows. They are a little low on the power side and are a bit laggy but How bad is the lag?

Congrats on the truck! Do you have any pics? In 89 they came with either a 22re 4 cylinder or a 3.0 V6 and yes they are slow compared to other motors out there. They are not really that bad once you get used to them.

No we don't. The 3.0L 3vze is the 3.slow. The 22re is just a bulletproof, easy to work on, slow 4cyl motor. LOL.

Welcome to YT!

As for what to do next... considering 31's and lift, you might look in to regearing.

don't let these guys all bust on the 3vze v-6. yeah it's a bit underpowered, and has a hg recall. but otherwise these are just as reliable as a 22r as long as you take care of your vehicle. and they will spank a 22r truck all day long in a race of slugs

search the isr mod as it will help a bit in the power department. also I always recommend a full tuneup on a new to you vehicle. Also if the truck was not regeared when bigger tires were installed it's undergeared now.
