New Runner Mods?

So i might be picking up a 1990 4runner 5speed tomorrow. if all goes well i will get it. so im just trying to figure out what to do first. so far the set up that i want to run is a 4inch lift with 33's. and i know what if i want to go that big i need to regear to 4.88s which will most likely be done. so what i am asking is what type of tire should i get? what brand of lift should i get? i dont want a body lift and this will be my DD so tires should work on the street. will be taken off road as well. so if anyone has opinions on what i should do or if you have pics of what this kind of set up would look like that would be great.

depends on which gears are already in it right now... if they are 4.56 you shouldnt have to regear and will be fine wiht 33's. check into doing the ISR, and exaust.

let me know when you want to take it wheelin... i'm not that far from you.

I would save the money from the lift and put it into repairs, armor, and lockers. If you're thinking 33x12.50, I think you need new wheels with less backspacing too. Fitting them gets quite expensive.

You can do 33x10.50 with NO lift ... I have Dunlop Radial RoverRVXT in that size. VERY good on the road, especially in snow, surprisingly good in mud (but still not great), haven't had much chance to try them on rocks.

Only bad thing about 33x10.50 is extremely limited tire choice. Dunlop, BFG, and Interco are the only ones with tires this size.

This may be the only post you ever see on yotatech telling you how to SAVE money...LOL

well i like the look of the 4inch lift. i probably will run stock for a while. but why would i want to put 33s with no lift. kind of pointless in my eyes. The truck is in great shape from what i understand so i dont believe i will need to be doing any repairs. The owner is a 15 year toyota tech. so how hard is it to fit that size tires? what all is needed to get that size tire to fit?

if you want you could go wiht BJ spacers and Land Curiser coils.. gives you about 2 niches of lift and is alot cheaper then the bracket kits.. plus it will give you more flex. you could alot do all-pro coil spacers but again wont help wiht flex

4" bracket lifts suck.

EDIT: Fixed option # info. My bad for not remembering!

So i can get a Front Ball Joint spacer at about 1.5" and then tighten the torsion bars a lil for about 2inches of lift in the front. then add a 2" coil spring spacer in the back and get about 2inches of lift all the way around? is this correct. this will be my first time dealing with coil springs. leafs are a whole lot easier. and if anyone has any links to good company's that sell these spacers that would be great.

www.4crawler.com (BJ spacers)
www.trdparts4u.com (BJ Spacers)
http://www.allprooffroad.com/ (coil spacers)

if you do BJ spacers make sure to get manual locking hubs. saves the CVs

so i believe im going to go with some land cruiser coils in the back. i read on some site that there are 5.5inch fj 80 coils. what whould i have to do to the font to get it to level out. i know that the back ends of 4runners naturally sag so i will be loosing some inches just correcting that. but could i just add some spacer to the front and even it out. i want to stick with my 31s for now. im looking for some wider rims to make it look better. will that much of a lift even look right with 31s. i know this question has been beat to death but im just trying to cover my bases. and i dont want to buy a whole kit that is going to cost me 500-1000 bucks. im just trying to get a cheep fuctional lift on my rig for now.

o yea. and BTW. i want to take off my running boards. i dont like them. if i do that right now will the front tires need some type of mud flap. to keep rocks from hitting the side of my truck?

yes 31s will look fine wiht LC coils and BJ spacers. as for the 5.5" i think thats if you get 2 Long side coils. i have 2 short side coils and i got ~2.25" above the 1.75" i got from going from stock to Downey HDs. i would suggest getting Manual locking hubs if you get BJ spacers to save wear on the CVs. i want to get more lift in the rear of mine. i dont think the short side LC coils provides enough lift.

thats what my set up looks like now. those are 31x10.50 SuperSwamper Radial TSLs

i kind of like the way yours is set up. i was thinking the same thing about the back. i want to run some 10inch wide rims cuz i like the widder stance that they give. and put some flares on there. do you have any problems rocks or anything flying up and hitting the side of your truck without the running boards on there. i saw the 5.5. inch coils here http://allprooffroad.com/index.php?o...ask=view&id=45.
