new cold air setup
well I managed to start the scoop as I promised to do on the runner lots of pics
and a step by step on how to and what you will need. Some might like it some might hate it, but hey Im trying to do something original and actually make it function better than the aftermarket ones IMO you guys deside no way in hell i could dyno it as it is expensive but might notice some difference who knows.
Hope you guys like it. (DONT KNOW WHY THE IMAGES CAME OUT SIDEWAYS)
Origionaly my plan was to use the air vent out of a 280zx turbo from the junk yard but to my luck the car was already gone but I did manage to find one from an N/A wich is kind of different but will do the trick
This one is from an 82 datsun 280zx 2+2

First step after you have your air vent you will need:
1:Air cutting tool and compressor (optional) makes it easier
2:Snips right and left handed (Prefebly Midwest brand optional)
3:A step drill bit and a drill
4:Some toungs (or a hammer and some pliers)
5:A 1/8 inch drill bit
6:Rivet gun and rivets
1: For the intake box I made was made with 24 gauge sheet metal simple square design I took and cut myself 4 6.5"x8"x6.5"x8" pieces of metal and two
6.5x6.5x6.5x6.5 for the front and rears of the intake box. The rear you will have to cut to accomodate the cone filter the the airflow meter and has to be completly seal. just make sure you ad .5" to the measurements as you need to bend them to 90* as you will need to put the box together and need to riveted to something sorry for the lack of info or pics as I did this box a few weeks back.(The filter is an autozone spectre cone filter and it is inside the box) Ill take the box out tommorow for you guys too see how it looks and get ideas as of what im talking about.

2: Get the air vent and install it where you think you want it

After you deside where to put it mark it with a marker or pen

should look something like this after you mark it

3: Start cutting your hood

And the hole is done
https://www.yotatech.com/members/z31...t-photo-10.jpg
some triming will be require so be patient
4: After messing with it and mak-up where the 3 holes will go drill it with the step bit to about a 1/4"sory again my camera did not get the pics but you simply bent the lobes to about 45* downward then fold them again to a 45 upward so it will have the shape of a Z as this will suport where your bolts will go
5: Wallaw there you have it the finished product

As for the actual cold air Im planning to run I got to fabricate some sheet metal that will connect the scoop to the actual housing I have the front cover filter box off for the meen time I will fabricate something tommorow
and I will update
Have still have to do the actual setup

Because you linked to the attachments of an email on your mail account, your the only one thats going to see them. Upload em to an album here, attach them to the post (Manage attachments on the post reply screen) or one of the offsite photo hosts. There is a Picture howto around here somewhere that gives details if you need more info than that..

Wow those are tiny not small, You only need to shrink them to 600 to upload to an album here. eg 4 times bigger than that. And using the img tags will put them inline with the post.
Also you can upload the full size (within file size limit) pictures as an attachment to your posts also.
Here is the album link for the intenet impaired and lazy among us.

Im close to finishing the air duct thats going to supply my intake box pics comming soon!
for the meen time that air scoop has helped alot my costom intake box stays cold enven on hot sunny days and does improve acceleration just a little, mostly on hills where the RPM'S are higher, and if you are wondering is just the noise that makes "me" think im going faster than I am, you are way wrong I feel the difference No way to prove it unless I have a dyno sheet but I can tell it made a difference FYI I have nissan 87 300zx turbo running 320 to the wheels so I can tell the difference when I drive the yota:-)
