New Clutch & Burning smell - help
Did my first clutch job on my 89 22RE 4runner. Took me a long time and many headaches. The clutch catches about about 1/2 way or 3/4 way up and doesn't seem to slip. In 3rd if I let it out it stalls. I've probably driven it about 30 miles so far and there is often this burning clutch smell. Is there something to adjust. I did screw up and not mark the flywheel/pressure plate when I took it off, so I just put the new one on not knowing how to line it up. Didn't seem like a big deal to me. Is this just the new clutch getting broken in? I did have my flywheel resurfaced and it was pretty rough and the clutch is an Autozone (Valeo). Any help appreciated.

more than likely just breaking in
you did clean the pressure surfaces good with some brake cleaner right? the new pressure plate is often coated with an anti-rust agent like new brake rotors, and I've known many machine shops that'll do the same when they resurface a flywheel

hmm i'm in a similar boat - i just bought my rig with a recent (maybe 1k mi on it?) centerforce clutch and when i mash it going uphill in 3rd/4th, i get this ridiulous burning smell till i let up; it basically does it at higher rpms ... i was almost thinking exhaust leak, but it doesnt smell like gasoline, more like oil...
