New 22Re dragging
I Just Installed a new 22re long block in my 1988 toyota pickup. After I got the engine all hooked up it turned over about 6 times (never started but turned over) before the starter froze ( brand new battery and terminals) now with a new starter that has been tested and is good the engine drags turns over hard and isn't even getting to the point where it will fire. When it was turning over before the old starter froze their were no noises but their is oil in the throttle body and the oil smells like gas. I talked to the toyota master tech and he said the oil in throttle body is from the hose that comes out of the cylinder head into the efi which they say happens everyonce in awhile. But I still have no clue why gas would be in the oil although the other hose that goes to the cylinder head smelled badly of gas so im guessing that was why? Please help me I badly want to get my toyota project up and running!

yes i did have it tested before i brought it home and its still dragging? could it be something else bound up also the plate that comes out of the bellhousing for the clutch also got twisted but its straigthend out now and working properly could that possibly caused the clutch or flywheel to become bound up? and so its ok the rings havent seated?

I'd try turning the engine over by hand using a long-handled wrench on the crank pulley bolt. That might help determine whether the issue is with the engine or the starter.
If this is the plate you mean, it shouldn't have moved or twisted.
Is your battery good? You said it's new, but is it actually good?
The rings won't seat until the motor runs.

no its the clutch I dunno if you would call it a plate its what the clutch release cylinder pushes to disengage the clutch. i can turn it by hand but its no super easy but not super hard I can do it with just a standard 19mm box end wrench. the battery is fully charged brand new from les schwab im a les schwab employee and terminals are brand new

Ah, you mean the clutch fork. I don't see how the clutch linkage could cause the engine to drag, but if you want to test, press the clutch cancel switch and try starting (in neutral) without holding down the clutch pedal.
The engine turning over by hand is a relief. Not easy, but not super hard is normal.
Sounds like a bad starter, bad battery or bad ground. Ground seems like a prime candidate since you just hooked all this back up. Might clean off the negative battery cable end and block surface where it attaches. If that doesn't help I'd have the battery tested under load.
