sorry for so many pics but you guys got me looking at all my hundreds of photos of the progression of my truck and just thought you would all appreciate a bunch of the best ones..

 

Fifteen people at work gave offers to buy. One guy said he needed a "bush" truck. He'd probably roll it then shoot at it. Another guy needed a diversion from his spouse. Two different guys wanted it for their kids.

One guy said he wanted to lower it (?) and put wide racing tires (?) and big orange fog lights up front. All said "you've got a new truck, waddya need that old piece of sh** for." Most think they're gonna wheel n' deal, offering $1,000.

Learned to drive on a 78 SR5. Currently own an 88 2WD that I have owned 18 years (I can't keep my wife out of it long enough to change oil), 88 4WD over 10 years (retired to wood hauler/farm buggy...rolled twice before I got it), 94 4WD 3 years. All 22r's 5spd. Recently acquired 94 T100 that needs a lot of work. I can say the older ones are much better trucks overall. We have serious frame rot around here so we have to watch that with US production yota's. Both 88's sleep on the grass but frames are clean. 94...not so much.

I remember the day I went with my mom back in 94 to trade in my dad's POS Nissan Sentra for the truck that currently sits in my driveway. My dad doesn't believe me when I tell him I'm never getting rid of it. He says "nothing lasts forever." I tell him that's why they make replacement parts and YotaTech.

Speaking of which, I need to get my butt out to the garage...

 

Man, this is why I don't want to get rid of mine.
The wife keeps telling me we're going to have to sell it and get something bigger [have a daughter and another on the way], but I know if I get rid of it I'll have a really hard time finding another one.

 

You can always tell a yota lover by the " I let her go when hell freezes over, until hen it's gonna take the end of the world to release her from my cold dead fingers, in which I'm still diving her home". Maybe not everyone's exact quote but you get the picture. I bought mine bone stock and mint condition back in 2004 and now lifted, beat in, and still running strong she remains in my driveway. I just don't know how to sell her, I've had sooo many offers too. I've fought and worked hard to keep her thru a divorce, several impounds, and 3 years of being parked. She is still the love of my life and she's even a 3VZ! I actually bought an 86 4runner in which I've been slowly making mine and bringing back to life but the passion still remains for my Black Betty

My '88 just rolled out of my driveway without me driving it....odd site to see. I know I will regret it,.....but it had to be done!(baby on the way). At least it was sold locally so that I may see it on the road here and there. She (my '88) will be missed!

 

I bought my '89 4Runner nearly new (as a demo) and I wouldn't sell it. Way too many memories with that truck, not to mention my blood sweat and tears! There's something about owning one of these trucks that gets to you like no other vehicle.

I know its tough seeing the money going out with more trips to the gas station, but I somehow find it difficult to see howthe TDI purchase is better...then again I am partial to Yotas over most any vehicle.

 

When I was keeping my truck at my parents' house my dad had to eventually put a "NOT FOR SALE" sign on it because of so many people stopping and asking. He would get a lot of guys from South America who wanted to buy it and send it down there, which is weird because I thought South America was loaded with Toyotas?

 

I still kick myself for ever selling my 86. Loved that thing.







But the 89 is nice also.



Next one will be an 03-05 Land Cruiser and I'm sure I'll hate to sell my 4runner when the time comes.

 

noooo....as much as i love my 100-series, it doesn't have a removable top like your 4runner does... OTOH, it does have heated seats and 15mpg hwy on a good day

On the subject of never sell your rig, I should have never cashed out on my old 87 22ret x-cab from the insurance company. Neighbor totaled it in the parking lot of my apartment when I was in college and it could have been fixed up, but insurance offered me way more than I paid for it and I needed money because I turned 21 that year.... Even worse decision was replacing that rig with a lemon 83 K5 Blazer/6.2L diesel instead of being smart and buying a 1st gen 4runner instead, since I wanted a removable top 4x4 - i'd probably still have it too! Oh well, on the bright side I've had my 93 xcab for 5yrs and don't really plan on selling it (even though I get nice offers all the time from random people).

 

For the longest time my wife wanted me to sell my 4runner. She wanted me to get something updated and faster. I had to explain to her that even though it was old, it is still very useful. Just because a hammer, shovel, or a wheel barrow start showing wear doesn't mean they're not useful anymore, the same goes for the 4runner.

One day while I am in Afghanistan, my wife needed to pick up a load of sod from her friend. Did she use her Audi? No. Did she take my Evo? Hell no! She took the most useful vehicle we owned, my slow, gutted 4runner and filled it to the brim with sod and brought it home. The next day on the phone she told me she "got it" and started to really like the 4runner.

I have since installed Thorley headers and exhaust and am going to replace the rear coils with Moog cargo coils. It just makes no sense to sell it, it is just way too useful.

The only vehicle I regret getting rid of was my '67 VW Beetle. I know I would feel the same way about losing my 4Runner as well.

 

That sounds familiar. I just applied for (and am in the running for) an higher paying job managing a VA hospital and my fiance let me know that I can't pull up to the office in a suit driving an old Toyota. We're going to have a talk her and I.

 

My 1990 lifted 4runner has a blown head gasket. I cant find anyone to fix it. i even got the head gasket kit and no one will commit to doing it. they all are saying its probably a lost cause.

4runr1990 - We don't even know what kind of engine you have, please do some research or start your own thread it you really need to, i promise your question has been answered somewhere on this site. Back on topic, i still kick myself ALL the time for having to sell my 92 v6 extra cab. I hydrolocked the motor during finals week and had to get rid of it so i could buy something to go home for the summer. Ended up in a jeep. Barf. Now in an 87' 4runner and so happy to be back!

 

Its a V6, 3vze i guess..... every person i have tried to get to work on the truck seems to tell me that its probably done, that the engine is probably toast..... if i had the tools i would do it myself!
they all come up with reasons its not worth it to do the work.... and are telling me to get rid of it.... i dont really want to do that but i need something to get around in - and soon
