Never Sell Your Truck!

Never Sell Your Truck!
Just wanted to warn anyone thinking about selling their Toyota Pickup.....DON'T DO IT!!!! You will end up regretting it!
Here are a few pics of my old 93 22re pickup:
Some years ago, that truck was my daily driver. It was one of the best vehicles I have ever owned! There is just something special about the feel of that truck! Even though it was over 15 years old, and had close 200k on it, it still felt sold. It even felt more solid then its replacement (2001 4runner!) It could go anywhere I asked it to, and never let me down. Unfortunately, the engine started failing, and I didn't have the time or space to fix it, so I ended up selling it, and buying a 2001 4runner, which was awesome as well....but just not the same!
After about a year of driving the 4runner 50 miles a day M-F @ 16mpg, I started looking for something more fuel efficient. I was paying $180/mo for the car payment and about $270/mo in gas. Even though I loved the 4runner, I hated spending so much money in gas every month, I had to limit my driving to work only!
I crunched some numbers, and found it cost about the same a month to drive my 4runner (Payment & Gas) as it did to buy a new more fuel efficient car! I ended up trading in the 4runner (at a dealer) for only $1500 less then what I paid for it!
This is what I ended up with:
2011 VW Jetta TDI fully loaded w/NAV
I am now getting 35-40MPG, instead of 16MPG, and spend about $100/mo in fuel, instead of $270! It is very comfortable for a DD, but there are times where I miss the feeling of Toyota Body on Frame construction, and 4wd.
Now I am really missing my 3rd gen pickup! I really wish I would have held on to it, and found a place for it until I could fix it! It will probley be a year or 2 before I can get another 3rd gen, but I am looking anyways. They are really hard to find now in decent condition, with reasonable miles, 22re, and a manual transmission! I can't wait until I can get behind the wheel of one of these again! Don't sell your truck if you can help it!!!

Most people would say the 84-85, 86-88, and 89-95 trucks are the most solid toyota's ever built. ( same years of the 4Runners ) for having a 92 4Runner myself... it doesnt' feel like a 20 year old vehicle at all.

I have missed the trucks I've sold as well. started with a 1970 toyota, and a 1960 dodge d100. But the trucks I really miss are the 85' toy that I drove from high school till 2002ish. Then I scored a cheap 91, did the head and sold it. Man! That truck was sweet.
I like the VW's, and I completely understand.
I looked on cl for a long time till I found my 87. People want a lot of money for these trucks.

I do live in Washington County, TV HWY and Cornelius Pass area. I sold it to a guy who bought it for his son, they were going to fix the engine together...
For my 4runner I was paying:
$180/mo - Car Payment
$270/mo - Gas
Total - $450
For the TDI I pay:
$380/mo - Car Payment
$100/mo - Diesel
Total - $480
So it is a little more a month, but now I am throwing away alot less on fuel, and putting more into a car that will have some value in it when I am done with it! Plus TDI's hold their value really well!
At the time, the move from the truck to the 4runner made sense (Starting a family, wanted some comfort for a DD) And now the move from the 4runner to the Diesel Jetta made sense. I just want a truck again as a 2nd vehicle.

Yes, never sell them. I wish I still had my '93 single cab sometimes. Not so much anymore now that I have a Tundra. I dont miss my '88 4runner... I was debating about selling my '95 4Runner when the engine gave out. I just COULD NOT do it... She is my baby

Thank you, I think the previous owner re upholstered the seats. I also pulled the front of the dash and other easily removable interior parts and cleaned them up. The cleanest part of this truck though was the frame...It look brand new! This is a big part of my regret, that I may never find a 3rd gen that clean again!

i had somebody offer me $6000 cash for mine. i told him no, and he asked why i wanted to keep a piece of crap truck like this. that was when we went 4-wheelin and i had to pull him out of the mudhole twice(04 F150 4wd on 35s).

Man, my truck is such a beater in comparison! ('94 with a flapping bedside on the driver's side, bottoms of the doors starting to really go, and cab corners rusting through)
Frame is decent, though. When I get my own shop I'll do like slacker does, pull everything off the frame, fix what needs fixing, and POR15 in/out, rebuild the body to be half decent, and roll onward.
That '93 is drop dead gorgeous!
