Need a welder in Phoenix

Hey guys, my tail pipe broke off and a shop wants to charge me like 30 bucks just to weld the tail pipe to the exhaust system.

I was thinking about using JB Weld..but it has to go for emissions next week.

Let me know if you able to help out

thanks

myron- here's a question for you though: have you tried calling the test center to find out if you really need the pipe out of the side of the truck or can they do the emissions test the way it is? Considering there really isn't anything smog related after the cat...?

If you think about it $30 isn't that unreasonable. Most shops charge $40-$60/hr. The shop will easily piss away a half hour just getting the truck in, on the lift, up/down and out. Plus the actual job. I use Steve Schaefer at Sonoran Steel, but I expect to pay him his going rate. He does excellent work and is worth every penny. I understand however, that this is just a tailpipe and you don't want to make a major project out of it. Perhaps you could try the AZ section in 4ROC and see if anyone "plays around" with a welder and would do it for a 6 pack or such. Also keep in mind what your time and gas etc. are worth before you go driving very far to have it done "on the cheap".

It is a royal PITA to weld exhausts while it is under the truck. I hope the other end of the pipe can be taken off.

I agree its kind of pricy. I had some minor stuff done here in Wa and they charge $8 a bead (weld). I had 2.25" run from forward of axle, tucked up nice and out of the way out behind drive side rear tire for $45 in San Antonio, Tx.

Maybe there's more to it than putting the two peices together and running a bead. Is it rusted out? What kind of shop are you going to, avoid the chains.
