need help with problem on a 94 toyota pickup
I have a 94 toyota pickup 190,000 miles never a major problem. I went out yesterday to make a short trip; it started just fine; drove approx 20 miles shut it off went back an hour later; turn the key nothing not even a click. But all the dashboard lights are working, radio, head lights all work. There is a button on this year truck; I never use it but my husband uses it all the time to bypass the clutch; I think it is called a clutch cancel. I tried this and it fired right up; but this is the only way it will start. Can anyone tell me what is going on?
Thanks

Tell him fix it right or get ready to pay a dealership mechanic bill
Here is the inspection and adjustment section. And the Clutch system index
It's a pretty simple and straight forward adjustment and test. Might need replaced or just adjusted. I'd guess replaced since he added an extra switch/button.
84520-35010, is the OEM part number but it's a pricey little switch 47-63$. Any semi-random one from the local salvage yard should do, will take you longer to walk to the donor in the yard than pull and replace the switch.

I know, I looked up the OEM part number.
She implied or I infered that there was an auxilary one he installed.
Might as well add, you can just by pass that switch with a paper clip. Saves wear and tear on the crankshaft system. Just be aware and not hit anybody in the local parking lot if you forget what gear you're in.

Its not the clutch start cancel button on the dash that is the issue. That seems to be working. Its the switch the clutch engages.
You say fix it right, then suggest a paperclip. No No. Crankshaft system? Wear and tear?

Thank you for your answer. My husband just came in and toldme he thought that's what it was; but he said there are two different switches andhe is not sure which switch is the one that allows the clutch to engage. He isgoing to take it to his friends shop this weekend and look at it.
Thanks again for yourhelp. I love this site!

It is possible you just don`t get the clutch pushed in as far as it will go to close the switch .
I Have seen floor mats make this happen.
Then maybe the switch has failed.:jessica:
It is a simple matter to just jumper out the switch this is a personal matter to each there own.
i find it easier to bypass the ones I own.
