need help plz!

i got a 1989 toyota 4runner with the 22re motor. i have been having a problem with the truck ever since i put the new long block in it. when you got to about 4,000 rpm's, the intake screams but wont go no higher. the timing has not jumped. i checked it all. i got the timing set now but it is still running extremely rich (i've only been 100 miles on a full tank and gotta fill up again). the truck is on only 33's. i got a used cold start injector thinking it would fix it. but it didnt. then i found the pcv valve was stuck open, the helped with the idle but not the rich running condition. it has a brand new flowmaster muffler and the cat is gutted. anyone got ideas to stop this? i'm starting to think my ECU has gone bad. also the head gasket and all seals are good. i ran a cylinder leakage test on it already. but plz help!!!

Thanks!

Pull the trouble codes, and post them here. It'll give a every1 a starting point to help diagnose. Is your "new" longblock, new? Or is it a rebuilt 1?

set the timing with the TE1 and E1 terminals in the diagnostic connector jumpered?
If you didn't, the timing may be retarded too much and causing the issue you described- no high rpm performance and poor fuel economy.

i have pulled the codes and the only one it brings up is a code 51 which is a switch signal for like the a/c and clutch start cancel. however it must be stored in the history cause the cheak engine light is not even on while letting it run or driving it. i did also trip those two pins while setting the timing and that didnt help nether......

if it's a stored code, pull the efi fuse from the panel under the dash on the driver's side (or disconnect the battery) for a minute or so and go driving. then come back and pull the codes again. if the code is still there... that gives us something to start working with.

when you say the intake screams , do you mean a high pitch squeel that pierces your ears like air pressure? may be an intake leak? check the vacuum with a gauge and see if its low, a good vacuum is about 20 inches of vacuum, just a thought

i pulled it then it just came right back with that code 51. the intake screaming sound as in like it sounds like a honda with vtec. lol. also i just notice that when you just rev up the engine and hold it at 3200 rpm's, it will drop down to about 2800 to 2900 rpm's then go right back to 3200 constantly.
