Over the summer I installed a reman'd 22RE into my 89 pickup. Since then, I have had trouble with my truck coming close to overheating. What I mean is that when I begin to drive it heats up almost to where it is overheating but then goes down. I replaced the thermostat and the gasket, have put RTV Sealant on the housing because I had metal on metal and had a leak. Can anybody offer me any advice?

 

Have you checked your antifreeze? Are you running 50/50?

 

did you blead all the air out of the cooling system? and or did you check the cooling lines are they hot cause the temp gauge in the dash sometimes goes south and works half the time so just make sure that it is deff overheating other then that im not sure of anything else as of this point in time hope it helps

Did you replace the Tstat with a generic one (Napa, Autozone) or did you get the Toyota one? Get the Toyota one!!!

 

I'll bet that's the "problem". My '86 has been doing this for years. Mostly in winter. I don't worry about it anymore.....although, I'm rebuilding partially so I'm actually going to fix it.
