Is my transmission mount supposed to look like this?

Hello everyone.

I was under my 1995 4R 2WD V6 today, doing the tranny fluid, when I noticed something that looked rather odd.

Now, does this trans mount need to be replaced, or is it supposed to look that way? Anybody else got pictures of theirs?

Thank for any help you can provide.

its made that way so if the rubber on the other side of the plate fails. Your transmission wont be flopping all over the place. its a fail safe.

That had occurred to me, and I have seen limiting bolts on trans mounts before, but it looks so loose. Something in my mechanic's instinct tells me that part should be snug against the rubber part that it sticks through. Oh well, just my usual anal retentiveness.

As long as your not feeling a big jar on gear gear changes then don't worry.

That's perfectly normal. It's supposed to be in the center, but being off to the side isn't that big of a deal. A quick way to check, stick the truck down into low range, let the clutch up, creeping in 1st, watch the shifter, and floor it. If the shifter violently jumps over to the passenger side, your mounts are probably shot. A little bit of shifter movement is normal though.

The idea still works in high range.

My Supra used to pull apart rubber motor mounts. It was funny watching the shifter as i hit boost. It would tilt a good 30 degrees.

I also don't have a clutch for that matter, LOL.

I will try and see if I see any noticable signs of mount destruction, but the thing that got me here, is that if you look at the pics of a new mount, that bolt cap is tightened right up against the mount:

Instinct is telling me that some sort of failure must have occurred for it to be lifted out of its position, and cocked.
