Stoke! Got a 87 4 runner for $1500... in Hawaii supper cheap. Cold a/c no backyard work on it; full tank of gas; full tune up. The problem and Im sure I know the bad news. No power, little bit of white smoke, over heats. Blown gasket n ring seals? If so what's my best route for my stock DD?

 

Either find a good used motor, or rebuild the one you have.

You motor swap guys just kill me. IngSoc take a look at what you have (sounds like a head gasket) and rebuild it. Jeez I'm running an 89 4runner with 235K on it and it does damn good. Replace the head gasket, do a compression check and drive it for another 200K miles. These little 4 bangers are hard as hell to kill.

 

^^ yup, you're right (it is fun to put new (and different) engines in though!!)

my truck is getting tired finally after almost 150k miles (HARD miles), valve covers are a little leaky, can't wait to rebuild it... she'll be purdy... my goal is to get at least 500,000 miles on this engine, the only thing that can stop me is theft or destruction....
