Yeah, I finally found a midget to hang on my "midget hanger" stinger lol. Might be a keeper.

I had an ATK long block put in in 2003. It was a loser. Junked it after 60k miles, after spending $$$ to fix oil leaks, coolant leaks; never got around to fixing the timing chain rattle that it had from the beginning, or the gradually-getting-worse rod-knock that started after a few thousand miles.
Be careful. The warranty may just cover the parts, not the labor to R&R it. If you can afford it, I recommend having it rebuilt at a local shop, where you can visit and inspect while they're doing the job.

stifun.
what the hell did this good friend of da family use to rebuild this engine with? paint??
i'm sorry but $2k is alot of money, especially in these hard times.
everybodys got good suggestions on rebuilt motors with warranties. check them out.
otherwise, your engine is probably a good candidate for a core as far as i know.
& try to find all the receipts for the parts ect. & take some legal action. its probably the only way to get some of that money back, legally.

$2000 before it was even done , sorry man you just dont do that .
For that kind of money and being a friend of the family he should have rebuilt it and installed it , once running then hand over the money .
Now , really, just cross your fingers and hope it turns out ok.
Like others have said you would have to take it apart to really check it.
Good Luck !!!

Well the good news is my mechanic finally decided to show up and finished the job installed the motor and its running and idles great. Now how do I know if he really did a good job on the build should I have a compression test done or what. So far at least I am not out on 2K as the truck is running and I will keep my fingers crossed to see if this motor last.
