My Gosh, my 3.0 was impossible to burp today!
Well, after my water pump re-do,and my new radiator installation, I was eager to get my baby on the road again. Usually, I can just run it with the radiator cap off,and add my mix accordingly, and she will burp herself. I had just basically did a t-belt WP install in less than 4 hours, and it took me longer than that to get my system burped. I constanly had no heat, but I was overheating. I broke down every heater hose on that damn truck trying to burp it. Finally, I just let it sit and cool down. Well, I guess that is what she needed, cuz I got heat now, and no overheating while cruising the neigborhood.

I hear you. I posted a couple of weeks ago with the same issue. I tried all the tricks in the book that I had read on here and it seems nothing would work.
Finally I let it idle with the radiator cap in the first position and all is well.

I just flushed and filled all 4 of my vehicles today. Three of them are Toyotas -- two, 4-cylinder Camrys and the 3.0 4Runner. The 3.0 was by far the most difficult. I finally just poured a little coolant in the radiator and let it sit for a few minutes. When I would come back, the fluid level was back down and I could pour in another tea cup-full. This went on for about half an hour. Seemed like the viscosity of the coolant caused it to be slow in filling the voids inside the system.
Driving it now, I have heat both at the dash and at the rear console, with no overheating. Will check it tomorrow and adjust as necessary.

I always remove the top radiator hose at the radiator and loosen it at the motor, turn the radiator end up and fill the block first. reconect the hose and fill the radiator. no problem so far doing it that way.

I've always referred to "burping" as when the stat opens and lets coolant into the block, not sqeezing hoses. What clears air out is an open stat, flow, angle, and time, period. This can be accomplished by just driving around and topping off your coolant resovoir until all the air is out.

No Burping Needed!
I've had really great results by filling the engine after draining coolant by using the hose coming off of the by-pass block at the rear of my 3.0 3VZE. First time I did this, I soaked my shirt while leaning over the radiator with cap off, as the rad backfilled easily. System was filled with no burping needed.
