Is my auto tranny dying?
So I went through the whole lot of investigation on why my 3slow is guttless etc. (see https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116...l-long-129883/ for the story if interested).
I think I narrowed down my lack of power down to the auto tranny. Some facts:
1. Oil level is OK, color is reddish, smells like oil. Not sure when/if it was changed
2. When I drive with O/D off and engine hot, quite often when I press O/D button (to enable it) for a very short period of time I can hear engine revving up before the overdrive kicks in, like it is disengaged inbetween.
3. I was towing a digger on a trailer some time ago (around 6,000 lbs I think) and it just wouldn't go over 44 mph, O/D off, naturally. Engine pinging (that's probably not related).
4. Recently I tried to adjust AT cable so that when the throttle is open, the AT cable has engaged a valve in the tranny (you can hear it click if you pull on the cable). After that I think it increased the pressure somewhat because especially in the morning when I move from N to D it engages hard. When everything is hot - no problem, smooth as.
5. when I go on motorway say at 60mph and I press gas down, it downshifts, RPMs start climbing up but it doesn't feel that it has guts to go faster. It may accelerate slowly but basically anything 3000-4500rpm doesn't give you any more power. Of course if you kickdown and if it goes into 4500rpm+ it goes - but who wants to do that anyway.
My friend suggests I take it to the auto tranny garage to do a full tranny flush with special detergents and machine plus oil replacement. He has Toyota people mover and says it helped to get the mid-range power back.
Can you guys let me know how your tranies feel in comparison with mine, i.e. 3vze+auto, I would appreciate - maybe it's just normal?

if the trans fluid has never been changed or you are not sure if it has, time to do it. if it doesnt smell burnt, you may have dodged a bullet. check with your local better business bureau or similar, for a trans shop. call or visit and ask plenty of questions.
good luck and keep us posted.
