my $500 91 4runner 4wd

hello there. I did it againg, this time I found a nice 4runner on craigslist for $500 bucks. the only problem is that it needs the transmission...The PO run it without oil and now it doesnt work....my question is, what type of damage can the transmission have from running it with almost no oil? here is a photo, I put some one later today ....P.S. the engine great.

try putting some fresh gear oil and see if it still has all its speeds otherwise sounds like time for a rebuild or a junkyard tranny

if it ran long enough to burn the fluid, it is bad or is going bad. auto trans aren't very forgiving.

Way to answer the question guys.

Honestly, if your talking about an auto, I don't know much about the internals of one.

Might try a google search, though....

sorry....it is a automatic....I just check the oil and it is where is suppose to be....An old lady owned this 4runner and what she told me was tha she run the car with the transmission fluid light on for about a week or soo. then she told some of her neighbors and they told her she need it fluid but of course was too later. I went to the junkyard and they told me that this year would only take one model of transmission, is this true? It is a 91 4runner sr5 4wd auto tranny with 365k miles but man the engine sound great.....anyone from north cali that is selling a tranny, please let me know thank you guys

Call around to local shops and see what it would cost to rebuild your tranny before you buy another one. No sense buying another one if it would only be a little more to rebuild yours, and then you'd have some type of a warranty. IMHO

I have an auto tranny from my 92 4runner. Some solenoid was shot and dont know if one of the wire is damage from the solenoid but if you need it, PM me. I live in Sacramento area. It has been sitting in my garage for 2 years now. The tranny fluid is still in there. Make an offer if you fill like what it is worth it...

Some people really just don't know what their old car/truck is actually worth.
