Put my foot into it, I did this a few more times then went away, certainly gave me a little scare. The truck is 1993 pickup, 22re 5 speed, 4x4. And to describe how the power loss felt, it kinda felt like a big transmission slip

Everything towards the back of the trucks seems dry on the outside, the front of the trans is a bit oily but I think it's a leaky valve cover gasket, if that's what you're asking

 

Mine is doing the same thing. I'll punch it to get on the freeway, the engine will rev but no increase in speed. Mine is a clutch that is dying. I went to get a clutch kit and the guy behind the counter said his dad's lasted for another 30k miles in that condition. Being a cheap bas**rd, I am still running it with the bad clutch. If I can avoid stomping on the gas I'm good. I'm certainly no expert but it sounds like the same symptoms I have.

Installed backwards? I know it's somewhat possible on the v6, so it may be possible with the 4 cyl, too.

 

I put it in according to the directions, so I doubt it

 

Get the flywheel resurfaced when you did the clutch? Possible the machine shop didn't pay attention to the specs for the required step from the friction surface to the surface the pressure plate bolts to. Or if you didn't get it machined, maybe it needed it and that step is out of spec. Did you break in the clutch? I think about the only other thing I could think of causing something like this on a fresh install is the clutch hydraulics or linkage sticking and keeping the clutch from engaging fully, but I'd imagine that's pretty rare.

 

I'll see what it does, if it keeps it up I might drop it off at the shop in town to see what they say about it

The clutch engages while you have the clutch pedal in.

I'd be suspicious of a faulty injector(s) or possibly an AFM issue. I would check (have them checked) the injectors first. Many shops can do this, no need to go to the dealer.

 

I really don't think it's that, I know the AFM is within spec and injectors do have a little age on them. I was even considering new ones over the summer, but it feels like a trans/driveline issue to me. Like I said, it feels like a big transmission slip. Have you ever parked an auto on a hill for a while and then when you get in you out it in drive and it just sits there and revs? That's what it's like. Engine is fine, just not getting it back to the wheels

 

It's not a glazing issue because you would hear a very embarrassing noise and have slippage on take off. Slipping in 5th gear is a tell tale sign of a worn clutch no ifs ands or buts. I see no other reason it would slip. If you're 100% sure it's not a mechanical issue I would pull the trans and check the clutch disc.

 

Yeah I was going to add that there was no hesitation, spit, sputter, clank, clunk, or bucking going on when this happened, it was all more-or-less smooth

 

Did this start about 120 miles ago? If rpm's are up and you're going nowhere, It would have to be clutch/transmission related in my opinion.

 

It only did it for about a mile, it started while going up a decent grade. But it never did it going up the mountain, i want be going anymore than about 10 miles or so until Monday so I'll see what it does then
