Master Cylinder?

My brake fluid reservoir won't hold fluid and my brakes have degenerated into pretty much nothing, goes all the way to the floor. Pretty sure its a master cylinder replacement, how much will that run me and is it a pretty easy job to do myself? I have an 88 Toy p/u 22re.

Not sure on the price. But DO NOT buy aftermarket. go get the genuine toyota parts. I won't go into the experiences I've had with crappy parts from the general auto stores.

I suggest you get the one man bleeder screws though. It's 10 bucks for 2 so you'll spend 20, but it's worth it. They have a check valve that makes it a one man job. You open the valve just a 1/4-1/2 turn, pump the pedal and it should pressurize. I have one on my clutch master. well worth the money.

IT could be the slave.. Where's it leaking from?
It's an easy job - just learn to bleed the brakes.

+1 on using toyota parts.. unless you like doing the job again.

I have a used one (master cylinder, genuine OE Toyota/Asin) from my 93 V6 4x4. worked just fine when I pulled it as part of my axle swap. $40 shipped to 48 states.

those 90's model master cylinders are different than the 80's models. mine was leaking from the reservior and i replaced the gasket that sits between the reservoir and the master cylinder and it is nice and tight now, no leaks. got the gasket from toyota. i let mine leak down while i was rebuilding my engine and test drove it while it was low on fluid and now i have to bleed the system.
