Map Light Prewire for '90 Runner SR5?
For whatever reason, my SR5 'Runner didn't come with the map light integrated into the rear view mirror.
Question: are they prewired for them anyways? In other words, if I buy a mirror with the lights, will the harness to plug into be there when I pull the current one off?
I don't have the vehicle with me, in for post-rebuild tuneup currently...
TIA,
Qdude

Never thought of that, but it would make sense why an SR5 would NOT have extra lights... too bad. I'd sure like to have 'em, but I'm not tearing up the headliner to do it.

find a wrecked buick regal/century of the late 90s vintage... they DO have maplights on the underside of the mirror... plus a digital compas...
also, a buddy of mine too his mirror from his Nissan Titan before he traded it in, and installed it in his scion tC... now he has the maplights, compas, garage door open/close button, a bluetooth button, and a temp gauge... all in his mirror... and its only like, 4 wires... youll have to run the sensors tho...
hes even been playing around with the idea of attaching the wires to his coolant temp sending unit, so he has an ACCURATE digital idea of what his motor is running... we found out that the tCs have a "dead spot" in the temp gauges between 210* and 250*...

to the OP-
never thought about it much, but I know my 88 4runner has the dome light above and between the front seats... but the r/v mirror mount is machined (cast?) in such a way I can tell that it 'could' have the dome light above the mirror (even the plastic blank cover has an extrusion to cover what could be viewed as where the 'on/off/door' switch would go). I've never taken it apart to see if the wires run there, but if they did, then it should be trivial to install the mechanism there to at least have a dome light there as well, and from that point it would not be hard to run a wire down to a lighted mirror.

To OP your runner may or may not be pre-wired it is relatively easy to wire them up if they did'nt. For what it's worth I happen to have a few sets of maplights in gray available for sale. I've done this mod myself and can include wiring instructions if you need them. pm me if interested...
abcedarian the mirror mount is designed to have a light in it. On single cab trucks that is where the dome light is the blank cover is replaced by a "clear" plastic cover and a bulb socket and switch is attached in there.

@aviator- that's what I was thinking, that the stock rearview mirror mount was designed to accomodate it, but toyota instead put the dome light farther rear instead...
my r/v mirror mount does not have the facilities to mount the switch or light- it's just cast metal bolted to the overhead, nothing to even hold the light bulb in place but it appears the switch and terminals could be installed. my dome light is centered overhead between the front seats.
