i just ordered my new engnbldr master kit, dropped off the block at the machine shop it's bored .40. ready to be decked as soon as i get the pistons and tc, ( i told eb the piston size is .40, and bearings - std

Q: should i use the stock connecting rods out of the old engine that blew a rod they were checked and said the other 3 are fine but should i ditch them

if your block is bored then you cant use the old pistons, you gotta get bigger ones to match the bore...

no no no i got a new block and had it bored .40 over, i told eb i wanted .40 pistons,rings and std bearings. but now i'm still thinking i'll still need to replace the old rods even if the machine shop said they look fine. the old 22re really chewed up the rod it spit out

And dont get them used. Usually the machine shop should be able to get them for you. When I went through and had my 63' Austin Healey machined, .065" over, I had to have custom pistons made. Went with JE Pistons, and they weren't cheap...if I remember correctly, I think some where in the neighborhood of $600.00...but those were completely custom with 2 compression rings and 1 oil skirt/ oil ring...instead of 3 comp. and 2 oil skirts...it's been a while so I might have something a$$ backwards here.

anybody have a complete set of rods sitting around? place i bought the SB from has them but i'd have to purchase the whole sb @ 275 ^ fixed the issue no wonder yall kept saying no

Check for them here...google'd this, and others came up from ebay as well as a bunch of other listings...I don't have the 22re so I dont know much about that engine...but I'm really positive it's super popular...and there's probably a ton of mfg.s who make replacement pistons, either in whole or part.

i saw the ebay thing i just dont wanna end up with some crappy material rods from ebay. still have to buy a new head,cam,header, and a buncha lost bolts forgot about 22re.com

You've much to learn young padawan. First on that list, NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND BUYS ANYTHING FROM DOA RACING ENGINES!!! GOT THAT? Dude's got the worst reputation in the industry...HANDS DOWN!

I've never dealt with DOA racing before...just did a quick google search and was posting what I came up with...I have had experience with JE Pistons...simply because they do custom work. Would never recommend someone I've never dealt with...just posting listings...ideas...etc.

And I hope I'm never done learning...

On the engine side of things, dont cut corners...put new bushings/ bearings in, get the engine machined properly, have the crank straightened and micro polished then miked so they can tell you the bearing size you need. Have the connecting rods checked for straightness and being out of round on the crank side and get new pistons with new wrist pins and then have new bushing put into the connecting rod...they may have to be machined to match.

Sorry, just reread the original post.....get new rods...better to have new on this then ??? what you bought used.

any body ever ordered from parts dinosaur ? just abouit everything in the master kit from eb covers all i need. minus the bolts i have to replace 22re.com has the tc bolts so all that leaves is just the intake manifold bolts/nuts

and 1 bolt to replace for mounting up the engine to the tranny

That was just for the connecting rods...If it were my engine and I had 3 out 4 rods that were good, I'd replace the 4 of em'. Just trying to help out.

thats what im doing im replacing all 4 rods

im building this engine from scratch so far i have all the gaskets,pistons,bearings.rings, pumps. i do not want to use the old rods,


Tthings left to get
i still need a head, exhaust mainifold , cam ,crank shaft, egr block off, exhaust sys, head bolts, basic stuff plugs,wires,coolant,oil,cap

then off to the tranny i got the 3 solinoids just gotta find the sport shifter i lost the link

ordered my erg block off plates from LCE , got new rods from dino at least i'll have the lower half done and ready to go
