Lowering Center of Gravity

Lowering Center of Gravity
OK, so I'm in the market for new set of 31" BFG All Terrains. My my 4runner with a narrow wheel base, 2" lift and 31"s make me pretty tippy. Would buying new wheels help my center of gravity? I'm currently running 31s on stock toyota alloy wheels (4.75" backspacing and 7" wide rims). Would buying wheels with 3.75" backspacing really help my center of gravity? It's only 2" wider with the 7" wheels and 3" wider with the 8" wheels. Would $200-$250 for the wheels and new lugnuts be worth the slightly lower center of gravity?
Then the guy at 4 wheel parts even offered a wheel with 2.5" backspacing. Anyone ever run these? I'd probably need fender flares, but that might just do the trick for my center of gravity. An ideas? Thanks

Your COG won't change with wider wheels... but your stance will become slightly wider to help offset your COG.
Whether a few inches is enough to make a noticeable difference is probably debatable.
What a minute... this is YT... everything is debatable.
Also... more BS in your wheels is harder on bearings and your front end components. Take those factors into consideration as well.

I have been wondering about the tipiness of my '88 lately. The shocks are kaput and do little to dampen any bumps. I was thinking about putting some stronger/ stiffer shocks on. My 2000 tacoma does not feel nearly as tippy, but the stance is very similar even with the topper on. Both have 31x10.50s.

tippy on 31's .......thats funny
Do you have a suspension lift or body lift? You never stated that.
Don't get wheels with too much BS or you'll be replacing wheel bearings on a regular basis

I have a IFS suspension lift, BJ spacers in the front and downey springs in the back. I haven't had any close calls to rolling, but I wheeled with a stock 92 toyota pickup on 31s who had one close call of rolling on a off camber obstacle. The jeep unlimited before us did it just fine without any sign of rolling.

There isnt really much else you can do then....thats about as low as it gets...
If you had a body lift I would say take that off....
Comparing your rig to an unlimited is kinda like comparing apples to oranges
Just know the limits of your vehicle
