Lookin for a truck. What to look for?
Hi, Im looking for a 94 or older Pickup to make my offroad toy. I live in Florida so it will just see alot of nasty mud along with some sand. No rocks to crawl over down here. I had a 94 Pickup on 33s with a 4" Trail Master kit for a few months but some drink hit me and totaled it. I loved it. It was a 22RE with a 5-speed and it was a regular cab. Im basically set on another one like that. Definitely have to have a 22R or 22RE with a 5-speed. Would get a extended cab if the truck was good.
So, when I go look for one, are there any special options or anything to look for? Any particular problems to look out for? My plans include a SAS if I get one with a ISF, hopefully 35s, gears to go with that, lockers and I want to slightly build the motor. Other than that, Just like winch, bumpers, lights, and other bolt on accessories like that. All help would be appreciated. Im not in a hurry to find one. I just want a good one to build up. Thanks.

Well, if you get a 22re 5spd, there isn't much to look out for. Check that the timing chain has been done in the last 100K or budget to do that. Get a truck with manual hubs and a gear driven transfer case to you can install lower gears if you want.

i'd say get a 85-88 extended cab pick-up. i had an 86 standard cab and loved it, but went to a 4runner for the added room. do you need a truck bed?
parts are easy to get and cheap(aftermarket & replacement)
88 and before has gear driven T-cases, which are known to be stronger.
85 and up have feul injection
extended cab for its wheelbase
if you find an 85 GET IT! but you probably know this.
the 86 i had was a turbo, so the transmission was the same as the V6 (beffy) but also had a lower first gear and gear driven T-case.(don't worry, i kept that and put it into my 89 runner
so if you can get a turbo they kick a$$ in the mud. he turbo keeps the RPMs right where you need them.
not sure what that'll do for you, there are other reasons, but can't think of them:/
