Locking Center Console

Im thinking of getting a lockable center console for my 87 runner, once the weather gets nice i plan on running a bikini top for a good portion of the summer and i dont want to have to worry about my info or anything getting stolen. do any of you have one, or have a recomendation on one.

currently looking at one of these

I ran through that site and couldn't find one for a 4runner. If they make one then you might be on to something. I'd love to have one for my 89 runner build but so far haven't found one that I like or will spend a ton of money on. I was planning on just using a console out of a 2nd gen runner and fabbing up some sort of lock for it.

they have a universal design that fits most trucks, i have not seen a direct fit, only universal ones. would love to get a direct fit, but i would be willing to make a universal work.

Those consoles look really nice, good price too. I searched on ebay, not many any cheaper than those ones.

Make sure you pick one out that has room to relocate the window and wiper switches.

i was thinking the same thing, but even if it doesnt have a relocation area im sure i could always relocate them on the dash, honestly i would prefer to have them on the dash anyway.

It sure would be nice to have those cupholders... Luckily until then I'm a true professional when it comes to driving a stick while holding a drink.

I used to have this center comsole on my yj. It was very nice but built of wood. Please report back on you progress with finding a decent cheap console.

This isn't a bad idea. I think I'll do this when I do my stereo so they can just install it in the box. Cupholders will be nice. Lockable area would be nice. And with the stereo in the center consol it would free up that nice big space in the dash for, like you said, the window/wiper switch; plus whatever light/aftermarket switches you have/would get. I'm definitely going this route.

We have some pictures up of Tuffy consoles installed in Tacomas, should be about the same install for a pickup or 4 Runner.

Those are awesome, do you have to add the stock armrest piece to those?

The two models we installed include the padded armrest, the cup holder and a mounting bracket (which was not needed on either truck) I ended up mounting the cup holders on the back of my box.

I don't have the entire product line up on our website. For specs and information see http://www.tuffyproducts.com/

Can anyone direct me to photos of the Tuffy locking center console (5.25" suzuki samurai console or 8" wide universal console) installed in a 2nd gen 4Runner? I see the photos posted by trdparts4u.com, but they show a Taco without the center plastic section extending from the front of the shifter to the back of the console, so that doesn't give me a good idea of how the 5.25 or 8 inch Tuffy box will "fit" in with my shifter section and/or rear window switch section (cupholders installed, not installed, etc.). 4runnerx3 or 4Crawler, do you have additional photos? I'd like to install either size locking console with cupholders on the front and back.

How tight is the 8" console squeezed between the seats? Any issue with the console (5.25 or 8) being in the way of the rear seats when folded forward?

I'm open to other brands, but the only other I've seen is the rampage, which offer zero details on the materials used.

Thanks!
