Lockers???

With all this talk about lockers, I got to thinking that maybe I should buy a pair of front and rear lockers. People keep talking about auto vs. non-auto lockers. Can somebody send me some links or tell me about the different types of lockers for both the front and rear?

Do you ever drive in 4wd on the road. In Calgary I suspect you might. Don't buy a front auto locker. Your safe choices for the front are an limited slip (Truetrac, Powerbrute, Auburn, Supra LSD), a selectable (ARB air locker) or leave it open and lock the rear only.

There are several auto lockers out there; Aussie locker, Lock Right, EZ locker, and Powertrax No-Slip (also called No-Spin). Powertrax No-Slip is the smoothest and most expensive. Aussie gives a good compromise between cost and smoothness and is the most durable from what I've heard.

I have an Aussie in the rear diff and I like it. I even did a review, see below.

The question of lockers is a huge can of worms just waiting to be opened. I'd have to say that searching this site and using Google would be the best thing for you. When it all comes down to it no one can tell you what locker will be best for you. You have to decide that based on what sort of wheeling you do in which terrain most often.

I have an Aussie (Matt16's write up was a big reason why I went this route) and love it but it might not be the best thing for snow and ice since you can't "unlock" it.

ok, thanks guys. That clears up the question of auto vs. manual lockers. It looks like I'll probably want to go with manual lockers for front and rear since I do a lot of driving on snow and ice. I use the truck off road for hunting, so like 10 times a year. Definitely not hard core off-roading like a lot of you guys do.

What are the different options for manual lockers?

There's a locker FAQ thread in the "Offroad Tech" section.

Suffice it to say that the only lockers without performance compromises are the selectables - ARB or elocker. EVERY other locker trades on-road performance for offroad, or vice-versa.

For the rear, you have arb or toyota e-locker.
