No, while I was loading the truck, I flipped over a log & he was under it. I didn't notice him right away; good thing he was still cold or he would have got me for sure.

Eastern Diamondback , I take it or something else? Markings are a bit different that what we see out here in the west on the diamonback.

Cold is very good when one of those guys are startled!

Definitely a copperhead. Beautiful animal. 9/10 copperhead bites are dry, and are almost never fatal. pretty cool pet if you can handle the responsibility ( and didn't chop its head off ) haha These guys really aren't that aggressive. they usually throw a warning bite if threatened... cottonmouths are a totally different story though. But nonetheless its still a pit viper.

( im a bit of a reptile hobbyist. ) hah

Thanks.... I knew he was a pit viper though of some sort.

Just looked it up...eastern diamondback would be very easy to identify with my western eye.

Doesn't look like much clearance around that rear tire. I hope you didn't have to drive too far with that over-load.

I hope you didnt let him go to waste, thats some good eating right there. Throw some tin foil on the grill, lemon and garlic and butter, throw him on there. Delicious.

hard to tell from the pictures, but it looks like he was a good sized copperhead. i see plenty of the little tiny ones, but only one of that size once or twice a year around here. not to be the hippie here, but i would have let him go and live to kill pests. plus, where there is one, there are plenty of others!

It sits on the bump stops at anything over about 1500 lbs, so no worries of it going down further.

I actually transported 1,980 lbs (.99 ton) of gravel later that day.....it performed superbly for the 17 miles trip.

This one was only about 24". I found one 7 years ago that was over 5 feet long; biggest Copperhead I'd ever seen. He had just shed & I thought it was someone's pet boa at first glance~

I know, I prefer to not kill snakes, but there were a lot of kids playing nearby & this was a paid job so no time to run him off somewhere out of the way...

Wow, TN! Way to load down the truck...haha! I did that to my '86 years ago. Killed the leaf springs...pffth!

My wife's been bitten by copperheads three times. And, I've had dogs bitten. No one's ever died except one, very small barn kitten. I keep a snake pole I made from PVC and rope around. Ahhh...life in the woods.
