what is this part and what does it do?
This o ring/gasket was on the upper idler on my 3VZE.

Anyone know what it is and what it does?

It's 1 of the 11 dust seals for the timing belt cover. So, obviously, it's for keeping dust/contaminants off of the timing belt components.

Ah, I was looking on the page with the idler.
I see it now with all the other timing cover stuff.
