im attempting to come up with everything im going to need to lift a total of 2-4 inches. heres what im planning thus far for my '94 2wd 22re p.u.

2" longer shackles will only net you about 1" of lift so you're gonna have to do add-a-leafs or something. Are the 2wds spring over or under in the rear?

bingo. ive thought about the axle flip kits, but im not sure about them, and the work involved, and the pricing for a good one, and yada yada yada. never heard any talk about them at all.

flip kit would be worth it...net you some extra clearance too, and the price /work isnt really that bad

 

flippin it wont take away anything from ride quality and such? i wouldnt think it would, but what alls involved? lookin through downey stuff they actually explain most of their parts. the flip kits dont have much info and the pictures arent tellin me crap.

 

flippin in makes it similar to the 4x4 trucks.

Spring over typically has more "axle wrap" issues.


Are ya liftin for looks or high speed dez running?

 

mainly looks, a little bit for bigger tires, and cause i have nothing else to live for. lol. but i will admit, i drive like a teen. if full throttle and high speeds are going to cause me problems, theres not a chance. i'll stick with my under the axle leafs.

 

Obviously axle wrap isnt a "problem" - the 4x4 trucks came that way.

First trick is to stagger the shocks - one pointed to the back the other to the front (yes - there's a reason they come that way from Toyota)

The second - the leaf forward of the axle is designed to resist the wrap.

The HUGE reason spring over's are popular is that they are "inexpensive" - esp if you do yer own welding... weld on a perch and add some new u bolts and DONE.

 

Couldn't you just pick up a 4x4 rear axle and swap it into your 2wd?
Seems like it would be less work, or am I just huffin' smoke..

I always woundered why guys would spend so much money to lift a 2wd to the stock (if that) hight of a 4x4.. but to each his own.

he could difinately swap in a 4x4 axle. plus if he did so, he wouldn't have to worry about regearing for new tires.

look dijlop, you sound a lot like i did a few years ago. i almost bought a superlift because it seemed like a good idea. personally i wouldn't get the downey t-bars or control arms. not because of quality but because i think that for your purpose there are probably better options.

i personally would look into a rear off a 4x4 and bj spacers and maybe a small crank on the stock bars. just think before you spend your money. there are many options out there.

 

Doesn't a SOA conversion net like 5 inches of lift?

From what I hear it's hard to lift the front enough to make it look right...

 

The purpose is lateral stability at high speeds (prerunners). Most prerunners are taller in the front than the back and their is a purpose to it. Spring under is a better choice for that kind of thing.

A 4WD axle in a 2WD is good for a long travel application where the front width is increased, but for stock track width a 4WD axle is too wide and it will cause the vehicle to want to drive you in different directions from the crown of the road.
