Lift Order List

Lift Order List
I am working on getting my order together for a lift on my truck. Before I do I just would like to know what I am missing or if you guys have any other suggestions/recommendations.
Just a little info on the truck: 1986 22re auto 4R w/ saggy rear end
I will not be doing any major rock crawling but would like to have the truck capable of doing regular to mild wheeling. The following is what I was planning on ordering:
Pro Comp ES3000 Shocks (for 4in lift)
Skyjacker Rear Leaf Set (4 in lift)
Ball Joint Spacer from RB
or
Pro Comp ES3000 Shocks (for 4in lift)
Skyjacker Rear Leaf Set (4 in lift)
Pro Comp 4 In Lift Kit and not use the lift blocks in the rear
I would like to place an order this week. Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks
Steve

I've heard that you might want to stay away from skyjacker....but with just a rear leaf set, how bad could they mess it up? I always thought skyjacker was a pretty good company, but I was looking at thier lift kits when I first decided to lift my truck, and all I heard was get away from them, you dont want that....oh well, I am gonna go with Fabtech's 3.5 inch coilover lift in the front, and add a leafs in the rear.

I don't think the ball joint spacer will be able to keep up with a rear 4" lift. Remember: 4" lift springs won't lift you from where your saggy springs are, it will lift you from where the springs used to be at original height. You might take some measurements on the bottom of your frame to see how far off the ground the front of your frame is compared to the rear, and go from there.
BTW, IMO IFS drop brackets suck, go with a more "stock" look. BJ spacers will be able to increase wheel travel and off road performance. Drop brackets in a 4" lift, however, only raise the height of your center of gravity, with no real performance benefits (other than perhaps being able to use larger tires, but you can do that with BJ spacers too.)
Try looking into some 2" lift springs, BJ spacers, longer shocks, and call it good (don't forget an alignment afterwards).

Thanks Brian! I will look into the 2 in lift option. I believe that might work better for my situation. Would you happen to know of any specific vendors that carry a 2 in lift kit set for the 1st gen 4R?
Thanks again

Do any of you have experience w/ running the Downey 3" Lift Springs in the rear w/ Pro Comp ES3000 Shocks all around and new Downey Torsion Bar? Just wondering how the ride is? Any major negatives to this set up?

The Downey springs sag pretty quickly. The Pro Comp shocks are what they are. i have never heard any great reviews other than they are cheap. I not only sell the OME setups I run it on my '92 and I wouldn't go any other way. I am sure there are others that would disagree but you asked for my opinion. Let me know if I can help.

Honestly, you can wheel quite a bit with what you have. In the first 19 years that I had my 4R, I could out-wheel most stock vehicles (mine was all stock until last October). If you are not running the stock wheels, (more offset), you could put on TJ coils (see link in my sig). Those will lift you to at least match the BJ spacers. I ran with them for a while, but couldn't get the compression (articulation) out of them that I wanted, so considering OME or Alcan leaves. TJ coils are cheap.

In regards to which springs to get, you can see my poll at https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f116/ome-vs-downey-vs-alcan-rear-leaf-springs-90376/

Thanks 86Original! I ended up going to Downey today and picking up the 3" Springs for the rear, their torsion bar, Bilstein's for the front, and Doestchtech MV12 Shocks for rear. I originally was going to use the Pro Comp ES3000 shocks but when I got to Downey I decided to just go w/ the whole setup w/ them. So now I am going to just sell the ES3000 shocks and use the ones from Downey.
I just want to say thanks to you, GunNut, Strap22, and everyone else for helping me w/ this. I will hopefully be getting the suspension on this coming week. As soon as I do I will make sure to take pics and post up here.
Thanks again everyone!

t-bars
how are those downey bars treating you? Mine sucked compared to the OME bars. Downey was too stiff, and the OMEs seems just right. Wish I'd gotten to you earlier.

Bdog,
Don't worry about it. I am one to always learn by doing. I will let everyone know how the ride is hopefully after sunday. My friend and I are going to be doing the install Sunday morning hopefully w/ no problems.
Thanks again bdog

Hey Steve! Can't wait to see your rig!
My downey TBs are treating me pretty well, can't complain about stiffness really. If it was up to me, I'd want them to be slightly stiffer but it's good for what I use it for.
