letting the truck sit for a week
Hey guys, got a quick question fer you all
I'm leaving this Friday to go to Washington DC for a week long vacation
I'm not taking my truck, and will be SECURLY LOCKING IT UP IN MY BACK YARD for a week under the supervision of 4 motion sensitive flood lights and two of my good neihbors, lol
But anywho, do you guys think I should worry about anything while leaving the truck sit for a week? Like the battery, or even gas? I would think the gas would be fine for a week, and one would assume the battery too, but I dunno; I've never let it sit for more than a day, lol
Thanks!

I'd say you are fine. I have let mine sit for nearly a month on an old battery and it still started up fine. If your afraid something might slowly drain the battery just pop off one terminal. Maybe make sure you have at least half tank of gas, letting it sit on empty can cause condensation (at least in cold weather)

Ive let my truck sit for a month with only 1 start for 20 min half way though. Started up just fine.
Just make sure your tires are aired up, nothin like comin home from a vacation and finding your tire/s flat.
You could take out the EFI and starter relay if you are worried about someone stealing it.

I'd be more worried about it getting stolen then not starting once you get back.
Hey wasn't it about 4 months between start ups you had before? I remember being in suspense watching the epic rebuild thread unfold!
What are you doing in DC, Madden, commentating on the Redskins game? BOOM!

You wont even need to unhook the battery. just let it sit for awhile, when you get back you can hop in it and smile at the fact it started up on the 1st key stroke haha

lol its only a week guys... I let my truck sit for 2 and 1/2. she'll be fine. no reason to disconnect the battery, or worry about your "gas" corroding... go have fun in DC worry free about your truck.

lol, alright guys, I figured it would be fine, but I just wanted to double check
yeah I guess the truck DID sit for 3 months during the engine rebuild and it was fine on well, lol
BUT, I will take the EFI fuse and starter relay out, just for good measure thanks for that Tubby!
actually going to Richmond Va first for the Busch and Nextel cup races, then staying in a cottage all week and visiting all the museums and monuments and what-not... maybe go play a little b-ball with Obama on his new court at the whitehouse

Only reason I say to unhook the battery is just because its easy
Last summer I went away for 2 weeks and left my truck at home. 3am sunday night the horn button flies off and grounds the horn, so my horn starts to blast away!
20 mins later after everyone at my house is trying to figure out what happend, my neighbor came over and removed the horn fuse...

A week?... you're laughing. Absolutely ZERO you need to do.
A month... probably fine though I just did this and I pulled the wires off the plugs and turned the engine over about 30 seconds first before starting it to get the oil circulating.

Trucks sit on dealer lots for 6 months or more and they're fine. I'm surprised you're worried about a week... I was letting mine sit for months at a time and it always started up fine.
As for e10 eating through boat fuel tanks, that's complete garbage. There is a list a mile long of problems e10 is giving boat owners but that one doesn't make the list.

Cool! Have fun. I'm spending Friday through Monday at the track with two of my brothers in a rented RV for the Phoenix race and going to all 3 races. Can't wait!

Geez your baby will be just fine.
I've left mine set for multiple six month periods(not like the wife was gonna take care of it...) and the truck fired right up. Hell, I left it set for two years once no issues.

two years? did you have clogged injectors from the old gasoline? :o we had a ford sit for 2 1/2 years, just recently started up. and it runs horrible because of the old gasoline that sat in the tank all that time.
