Leak questions

Unhappy Leak questions

So i just finished replacing the clutch on my 94 pickup. It's 4wd with the 22r-e. Anyway I have noticed it's leaking in two new spots: right between the transmition and the transfer case onto the cross brace, and also at the splines where the front part of the drive shaft connects to the back part. What do I do??

Gravity is not your friend. Any leak anywhere on the engine/transmission/transfer case makes its way to the bottom.

I'd suggest you get some spray-on engine degreaser and a garden hose. Get your rig as clean as possible, then drive it around the block and check it. You should be able to locate exactly where the leak is coming from.

Neither of his leaks are coming from the rear main seal. The first, as described, is coming from the transmission output seal which is commonly damaged when inexperienced techs intsall the transfer case and lay the input shaft on the seal whilst stabbing the t-case. Easy fix for even the most novice garage tech. The other leak described seems to be grease oozing out where it normally does after it has traveled. This is likely due to it being removed or disturbed when doing the initial job. That is nothing to worry about. Basically that drive shaft doesn't move at all if much on an ifs truck. I actually leave the rear main seals alone unless requested by the customer or they are leaking. The only time they leak from what i can tell is when some one scratches the sealing surface from installing a new seal or they are old ad brittle. For what its worth the only seal that i would install on the rear main is a factory seal. Felpro and the like are trash.
To answer the op's ?? fix the t-case/trans seal with a factory toyota part and be sure no to damage it when removing/installing the t-case. As for the driveshaft leaking don"t worry about it. It is normal from what i gather from your post. Grease your drivelines on the regular and you'll be good. Oh and when replacing your trans/tcase fluid avoid synthetic gear oil and pay attention to the factory requirements. Things like gl5 and gl4 etc etc matter.
