Knock sensor relocated - Code 52 CEL still present

Hi,

Quick history. Have to take my car over the pits (i'm in Australia) and i needed a quick temp fix for my code 52 before i had the time to take the plenum and intake off. (they give you a date here to have all your work done by) so i'm on a tight schedule.

so before i relocated it i would get 20 meters down the road and the CEL would come on. Now it's been relocated it will make it a good few miles before it clicks on and the power is dropped etc.

does anyone know what i did wrong when i relocated it? i mounted it to the rear engine hook and wired it in ok.

any help would be greatly appreciated!

cheers,

Stuey

The BEST solution is to replace the factory pigtail that runs under the plenum.

The engine hook is NOT the ideal location. Did you buy a DENSO KS or other brand?

Hi,

Yeah if it fails the pits and they give me an extension i think the plenums coming off and i'm replacing the wire and sensor.

the sensor is a genuine Toyota sensor. came from a wreckers but had been tested and came with a 3 month warranty so hoping it's ok.

it's just weird that it now delays the light coming on. almost like it's getting some vibration but not enough.

I just had my motor and heads rebuilt on my 3vze, put everything back in place and did not know of the KS and wire prob. took everything back off bought new KS and wire and still have the code 52. relocated old KS and wire to the top of the manifold and code 52 now is hit and miss but still pops up (time depending) at wits end at this point.

I don't think the knock sensor can be tested.

I know this sounds stupid but it happened to me. Make sure that the plug you are plugging into the knock sensor is yellow not green. The coolant temp sensor and the knock sensor have the same plug. The coolant temp sensor plug is green and the knock sensor is yellow. My 4runner was hooked u

Hoped up backwards when I bought it. Also make sure the knock sensor is tight. If its loose at all it will rattle and sense noise. They can test them with an oscope.

next step is to buy a multimeter and check the reading between the wire at ecu and KS. I got the right wire plugged in since i had to buy everything new, only thing im considering may be the problem is I did not buy an Oem knock sensor.
