I didn't understand a word you said in this paragraph....WTF...O?

Well Kat that's the cleanest looking transmission I've ever seen. The talk of the wiring harness got my interest as you might remember I was swapping motors and you recommended that I remove the harness from the computer and push it through the firewall. Well I went ahead and removed the plenum and the wiring harness was unplugged from the injectors and such and I left the harness plugged into the computer. Simply because there was a section of harness running through the fender well as well and I wasn't sure where it went and I didn't want to mess with it. The motor was fairly simple to set in without the plenum and the only problem I had after cranking it was a gas leak because I didn't put brass washers on both sides of the gas line bolts on the fuel rail. So off came the plenum again and the washer was installed and now the engine is running good. It is loping a little because I think I have a vacuum line backwards but all in all it's doing better than I expected. Thanks for the advice.

Stinger -- I learned my lesson about those washers as well -- I, now, replace them with new ones everytime i unhook them(within reason) -- Jegs actually sells a 500 piece assortment pack of them for like 5.99....

TNR -- I want to unplug the harness from the ECU, push it through the firewall and hook up all the sensors, injectors, and other crap while it is on the engine stand. I then want to drop most of the motor(so far I am thinking everything except the upper intake) in and simply push the wiring harness back through the firewall.

The reason for this is because it is a PIA to get all of them hooked up inside the engine bay. It is not undoable(is that a word), it is simply a pain.

I like the "smarter, not harder" approach...

Kat

PS - I am thinking about painting the transmission red while it is out --

That's a great idea! Let me know how that works out for ya.

I'd also like to see what you think of the lubriplate; my Dad & I rebuilt a Chevy 350 engine when I was about 14 and we used copious amounts of STP Oil Treatment for assembly lube. It's the stickiest/slipperiest stuff I've ever seen! That's what I was planning to use until the Lubriplate came up...

The reason I cited the tranny filter change as a PITA, was because I did it under my truck, lying on a tarp...lol

You'll get a kick out of this:

Step 1: Remove drain plug and allow all of ATF fluid to drain
Step 2: Pull all 19 10mm bolts from pan
Step 3: Attempt to pull pan and have 1 quart of ATF fluid come out of no where and splash down on face, chest, and neck
Step 4: Clean up cursing and swearing..
Step 5: Lay back down onto ATF soaked tarp
Step 6: Attempt to unbolt ATF filter and have another quart of ATF fluid dump onto chest
Step 7: Swear an oath to find the japanese prankster and drown him in ATF fluid....
Step 8: Complete work compleletly soaked in ATF fluid and dirt...

lol

LMAO!! I did not realize you did it while on the truck, yea that sounds like a terrible job.

i think there should be a half step in between every one... such as:

Step 1: remove drain plug and allow all of atf to drain
Step 1.5: Use explicative
Step 2: pull all 19 10mm bolts from pan
Step 2.5: Use explicative
ETC

DAMN! You must have been watching me or something!!

*looks around nervously* Am I being stalked? LOL!

The front propeller shaft on my 4wd makes reaching 7 of those 10mm bolts ooooh so much fun! Oh and the dipstick portion of the pan did NOT want to let go of the rest of the dipstick too....lol

Katie you are a true blue Lady!!! Keep up the good work!!! Bumpin this is a little late, but just found this killer thread. Hope you dont try the gazzoline trick again. Ever heard of the air burst bomb? One teeny little spark and they would still be finding parts of you in the next county.

Yeah buddy! Gazz will hurt ya quick. It only goes in the tank. Katie Use a squirt can with engine oil in it, to douse the rings really well before you put the compressor on. Keeps every thing loose for the initial start up, and burns right out. Good idea to have your new cat off for the first start so you dont crap it up.

Same goes for O2 sensor; you can ruin it in short order with an initial startup & all the stuff blowing out.

ROGER - I have been authrized to fire it up with open headers! YAY -- That's what I usually do anyways(although it was not ever for a good reason) .. Now my noise pollution has a purpose.

BUMPIN- Step away from the gas -- Don't you know that ladies despise gas anyways?!
Your device does sound like a nice tool though.

The pouring rain has kept me inside and not working on the truck at all today... GRRR - why does it have to rain only on the weekends? That's just not right!

Kat -

PS - On a side not, if anyone knows where I can get a forced induction setup for my bissel vacuum - Go ahead and forward me the link. I have spend the last hour disassembling the dang thing to get a carpet clog out - This SUCKS!! ~~~ err, It doesn't ...

Sorry, no supercharged vacuums on the market just yet! The only way around periodic dissassembly is to buy a GOOD vacuum, like a Kirby or Rainbow or FilterQueen. I've had all kinds of vacuums & hardly anyone makes one under $1000 that's worth two dead flies anymore. Kenmore has one that's @ $300 that has a Consumer Reports top rating, though...

oh btw KT, check that your TPS is within spec. For whatever reason mine died during my HG replacement. Made for not so fun driving; engine would bog, sometimes not shift, shift slowly, etc. Put a new one on, calibrated it, and WHAM my truck is FUN to drive again!!

I raced an ooold honda civic about 2 months ago, and prior to the TPS fix and won. The chick driving the civic was definately WOT, but she kept short shifting and when she did that Id just pull 2 lengths, shift, and begin pulling more and more.

Today I was following a v8 LandRover of some kind (they all look the same to me - ugly as sin). The chick driving it definately had a heavy foot. Im lollygagging behind not really caring for about 10 minutes (including passing a cop that made LR chick slam on her brakes) when we come to a light. She is in an open lane and Im right behind her, and to her right in the other lane is some old fart in his 11ty billion hp car afraid to use more than 10hp to get moving. Light goes green and with glee notice the back end of the Land Rover drop, so I pin the throttle to the floor as well, and also notice the back and of my rig drop about 2" or so. I honestly expected not to be able to keep up, BUT I was closing the gap despite the LandRover running WOT!

At about 35mph I see the land rover emit a puff of unburnt fuel, meaning it just shifted, at this point the other lane was clear, so I get into the other lane and run mine to 40mph in 1st, slam into second and pull about 1/2 a truck length at which point the LR chick gave up and I was well over 60 in a 45....

And for any of the fuzz that might read this, this is all in my imagination!

LOL - Sorry for the slow posting here, I have not called the machine shop - I imagine that it is done - I just haven't called him.

I did get my MOOG springs in today, so soon I won't have a saggy ass. I also got my Autometer trans temp gauge(now i need to order another sender for the water so i can put it in the block). I think that I am going to go with stock trans cooler for the time being. I will monitor temps for a while and if I get a henkerin', I will put on of the fan cooled ones under the truck...

what else.... Basically I am waiting for weather to clear so I can work on it. I would like to get all the new shocks on, coils in, fuel filter in, new deck in so i can put dash together, and then DO IT - I am leaving it at the shop as long as I can so I dont have to deal with it rusting at my house. The transmission is ready to go.

I did remember that I need 4 new DS bolts/nuts and I failed to order those plastic do-jobs thats the fuel injectors sit in.

In other news, the Virginia Tech deal took 2 friends of mine this week. And we are trying to rush the contracters in the rebuild of our house so that we can move back in there by the 8th when our rental contract is up(we dont want to move twice)

Anyways, and as always, thanks for reading...

KAT

Damn! Sorry to hear about your friends man...
Don't let it get to you too much...

edit: don't push your contractors too hard back when I was a contractor I used to say..."Go ahead... tell me it's a rush job..." then I'd either have other "emergency jobs" come up or my truck would breakdown or...

let them know you have a hard "drop dead" date of May 8 and they will do their best to have your pad at least occupy-able by that time while still doing good work...

thats what we have been doing - I am EXTREMELY nice to all the workers/contractors. I have let them know of my time line and they have said they will make it. They just need to do a finish coat on paint and lay carpet/tile(its only 1000 sqft), put cabinetry back in place(its there, just needs to be set it.)

They COULD get it done if they want. we know we are at their mercy.
