Just pulled a 3rd and I'm stumped.

Hey guys went and pulled a rear third out of a 95 2wd V6 4Runner and when I got it out to eyeball it I realized it is 4cyl 3rd. It appears to be the one factory installed but I'm curious as to why a 4cyl third is in a v6 4runner? Best I can figure is it has that 3rd because it is 2wd and an automatic. I no expert by any means and it just got me really curious. It'll still work for uses but I was wondering if any body knew if this is common.

Yeah that is true. But it really looks original no rtv no surfacing marks are present as to the original gasket being removed. I've still got to run the axle code which will tell all as to whether a swap has been done.

In 17 years, who knows what has happened in or on that Toyota.

I don't know exactly how common it is, but from what I've read it's not unheard of.

- A few pre-'96 V6 trucks and 4runners have been found to have come with the 4cyl style diff from the factory. Nobody knows why.

I'm very interested in what the axle code is. Maybe you could let us know what you find?

My wife used to have a 94 4Runner V6 auto 2WD and it had the 2 pinon rear that is found in 4 cylinders, I believe it is because it is a 2WD.
