Just Ordered

I just ordered a HG kit and cam from Engnbldr. I went with the 268 since I'm running 5.29's with 33's on the highway all the time. My question is, when installing the cam, do I need to plastiguage the bearings or anything or just remove the old cam and install the new one? Anyone have any advise on this?

I would recommend measuring. It'd be a shame to ruin your nice new cam if the clearances were off.

And FWIW, fighting doesn't work very well for solving ordinary differential equations, either. Ask me how I know....

engnbldr is fast! Shipped my stuff out same day. Their service is every bit as good as I've always heard it would be. I can't wait to get my stuff and try it out.

I don't expect a huge difference, but the 268 torkr is supposed to add some torque in the higher RPM's. I have a header and I hear they work very well together. I like to drive the piss out of my truck.

So we had a wrestling match to see who would have to stay up and finish the assignment and who got to get a couple hours sleep. I lost. So I guess my original statement was only half true. Fighting didn't solve my ODE problems, but then it did work out fairly well for my roomie. lol

So, back on topic. Am I missing something? Is there a reason why it would be difficult to plastigauge the bearings before you go ahead and install the cam? I'm not trying to be an @$$, I'm really asking. Cuz, unless I'm not thinking of something, it seems to me that if you're already in there it wouldn't be hard to torque the bearing caps down with some plastigauge and verify your clearances. Chances are that unless your bearings are brand spankin' new or your cam comes with oversized journals your oil clearances are gonna be wide. This is all on the assumtion that your bearings are reusable to begin with. Whenever I'm rebuilding an engine/head, a new crank/rod/cam = new bearings anyway. And I STILL measure them just to be sure! Just my $.02

The Engnbldr HG kit is pretty nice. I received mine the day after I ordered it! Little did I know they were about 20 miles from my house!

You're right. I'll go ahead and check the clearance. I've never done it before, but I get it, so why not? I've just never heard anyone say anything about changing their cam bearings before. I guess it's just assumed when the cam is changed.

When I'm totally frustrated in my math classes, it always feels like I should just be able to pound the hell out of someone until I get it. I know that's completely irrational but it's a feeling I get. It's like I'm mad that some of the others seem to get it and I don't but I could kick their ass, that's got to be worth something. It's not though. That's where I came up with that.

That's funny. You probably didn't have to pay for shipping.
