Just getting that age?
Hi all, My 1994 Pickup 22RE AFM has been giving me headaches the last year or so just randomly shutting my engine down and sometimes hampering my restarting. It's only happened a couple of times and usually restarted. The other day I grew more concerned. I also saw a check engine light and read it at 31. My 22RE still has it's original AFM and the Circuit opening relay. I jumped the check test connector from B+ to FP and it's never been smoother running. I actually measured the intermittent the FC and E1 switch condition and found it intermittent even when I physically turned the vane by hand. I opened the plastic cover on my ATM and can visibly see very small contact first pin (Fc) internally. The second pin E1 looked much better and was a good connection to ground. I could apply pressure to the switch arms and it would close but not make the electrical connection. I also took the opportunity to test the resistance readings outlined in the 4crawler troubleshooting guide. https://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTr...roubleshooting
I cleaned the resistive pad and wiper contact and it looked good. My thermistor read correctly also. I currently have 314K miles. All the stock is dwindling on the 22RE AFM (ebay, Amazon, Cardone, Autozone, Napa, Oreilly) I finally found a Amazon seller that had solid reviews. One of them even mentioned they checked the resistance readings and put it in and it worked great. I placed an order for the unit but shows it won't be delivered til after Christmas. I contacted the seller, it's in China and he says he is one of the few manufacturers in China. Many other sellers reviews show a lot of problems with the units working. Almost all list a year warranty. The Toyota part number is 2225035050. Cardone shows part number 74-20055 but are extremely hard to find. Is everyone else showing the same problems. At one time one person mentioned he had started a business of refurbishing the Toyota units but I can't find him anymore.
