Interior/Exterior refurb thread

Folks, I thought I'd create a nice little thread dedicated to those restoring and refurbishing their interiors. I know must of us here own their vehicles for recreational usage, so having a nice interior isn't a major hangup. However, for those of us DD'ing our rides, it is really nice to enjoy a clean, properly taken care of interior.

Common Broken/Missing Parts:
  • Dog Leg pins: 9046709042 and 9016735009 (two for each side)
  • Black interior vents: 55653-89102
  • Arm Rest Base cap: 742378910103
Vents:

I posted a week ago about my A/C vents falling out! What a pain! Not only was air directing not possible any more, but it made the dash look ugly.
Another member posted an excellent response to my problem:

It is a barn house shaped piece of plastic with square nubs on the outside and holes on the inside for the vent spring pin..

If you can't find them a double or triple layer of copper ground strap bent to a U shape should work.
I bought these on eBay because I didn't want to mess with fabricating a part, but if anyone wants to 3D print a 'barn' piece, let me know, I can get some measurements.

When I receive my purchased vents, I plan to submerge them in soapy water, and attempt to clean them.

A Q-tip works best to clean between the gaps.

Loose door panels:

For some, loose door panels are really frustrating, however, if your backing board isn't destroyed, then you can easily remedy this issue (if they are destroyed, this thread goes into detail on how to fix them right).

First, order these bad boys off of eBay. If your plastic panel 'rivets' are still in, you can slide them sideways, towards the larger hole. Try not to damage the backing board, its basically cardboard.

Slide the new ones in, and BAM! You are done

I do have another question/query, does anyone know the p/n of the plastic snaps holding on the 'dog leg' outside, above the running board?

Looks kinda like this, but beefier, and has a square head, with a smaller 'tap' size:

Try taking what you have to Autozone and have a look at all the "Help!" brand parts. I'm pretty sure you'll find something that works.

Good call. I'll look at my current set of interior snaps and see if I can mod them to fit the hole.

I got the vents in today, cleaned them, and they work GREAT! I can direct the air now!

On a side note, please wear eye protection when removing panel clips. You do not want to catch those with your face.

I went to them first, and it is cheaper to go with them if you have more stuff. It was going to be $14 because of shipping. Ouch!

Don't forget to check your Toyota dealership, sometimes you get a good deal.

NOS (new old stock) dash pads are very hard to find. What you get from Rock auto is going to be a carpet style dash cover not an OEM dash pad.

On a side note, there were two shades of grey used on first generation 4runners(910203, and 910213), I am not certain this was discontinued for later models but you should be aware it is a possibility.

The local dealership up here matches prices, very handy and no shipping. Stevenson west down in Denver doesn't match or give any discounts and it sucks, they do give discounts for rising sun club members at the East side one at least...

Maybe I should just make a list of p/n's and wander down there. I have an actual acct. with them, so 1-day shipping hooray!

let them do their jobs, they get paid to dig thru the parts catalog and have better access to the data than you will generally find online. Just give them a list of what you need with a general idea of what it is and where it's located and they will hook you up, but may have questions in which case they can show you the assembly diagram and ask.

At the beginning of 2017 Toyota made a major change to the parts catalog service it's now more difficult to find complete assembly diagrams online via a partscounter website, as you may have noticed Lakeland is one of the easier ones (still using the older system in lots of places), they can still be found on Russian websites.

good point, I've got a couple of misc. bolts and bits that are gone, and I probably couldn't find them online myself.

I think Olathe had a pretty good search and service too.

i.e.: http://parts.olathetoyota.com/auto-p...r-console-scat

Easier to find your car and pieces, when they aren't FASTENER, INTERIOR, BODY, OAK, BLACK, 13123988092189

I was looking on craiglist and found a very nice set of rear plastic panels. My car was used to hall stuff around so its pretty beat back there. The only snag is the new panels are tan. I'm going to try Dupli-color HVP1111 'Charcoal Gray' as that seems to be a close match. Any other suggestions?

Duplicolor sells an adhesion promoter. Use some of that first. Make sure the panels are clean and degreased first. That's the color I used in my 1st gen and it's a good match.

Looks like that thread belongs to our very own (Yotatech's) Grego92
