Insulating cab with undercoating

My floorboards and inside firewall are very hot from the engine and exhaust. Even with my A/C putting out 50 degree air it gets hot inside. I am thinking about maybe spraying a can of undercoating on the outside firewall and underneath near the exhaust the insulate it a little better. Does this sound like a good idea or bad?

Spray on under coating is going to do little to stop the heat problem your having, you need to find an insulation that goes under the carpet that will block the heat.

Maybe my problem is that I don't have any carpeting in my truck. All I have is a vinyl type material covering the floorboards.

undercoating is still not gonna block any heat. you'd be better off taping a piece of aluminum foil there. lol. which wouldn't be all that effective, but it would be better than that undercoating.

Home Depot or Lowes, the little rolls of "roofing repair". They are about 10"x20yard rolls. There's some threads on here about it...foil on the top, and adhesive on the bottom, molds to the floor bumps... great for heat/deadening...put 2 layers on... it's about $10/roll... then cover that w/ some jute pad, or just throw your mats back over it.

I would assume that those rolls from HD or Lowes are asphalt based. Has anyone actually done this with this product??

I would think that they would stink, especially on hot days?

Any actual user feedback on this?

Smell? well none. I used a bit of craft sticky spray, and the silver stuff is just foil n air. I love the suicide knob too.

I've heard the home depot approach smells in the summer. I want to put some in the doors and rear quarters. Don't really want to try this until I know for sure how it reacts to 100+F heat.

It did have an asphalt smell when I first applied it, for a few weeks, but it went away. It wasn't bad at all, and I live in FL. The material is more rubbery than asphalt/tar.

It looks like Teuf installed something else in his red pickup... foil w/ the air bubble in between? You could try doubling up the 2 different types on the floor, and use the roofing material in the doors. I installed the roof repair inside the rear fenders/tailgate on my 4runner, and it rides pretty quiet now. The floor has roofing repair, then Jute padding, then the HD vinyl "carpet" flooring.

Yes mine was the tin foilish kind, no smell whatsoever. Ok I see the post about the roof material.
