instrument cluster question

instrument cluster question

i have a 91 yota 2wd. i just bought a instrument clust from a 93 2wd with the guages and the tach...is this a direct replacement ia.unbolt,unplug.put in new one and plug in ..done? or what?if no...what is needed to change this over.

I think the '91 has a mechanical drive and the '93 has an electronic one. Look underneath your truck at the end of the transmission to find a cable attached to the side (if it's mechanical). I don't know the fix to adapt mechanical to electronic. There are other things you would need to do in order to get all the things on the cluster to work correctly--the tach needs to have an adapter and possibly the oil sending unit.

correction..it was from a 92 2wd xtra cab...it also is mechanical...
am i gonna have to de-pin the terminal plugs or what?...changer oil sending unit and temp. sending unit? is there a how-to on this or not?

should be a drop-in, just change out the oil pressure switch on the passenger side of the engine block with an SR5 gauge pressure sender, you can buy them at most parts stores.

It talks about a swap from the previous generation, then I have pics from my '91 swap at the end. If it is a mechanical speedo, just get an oil sending unit to replace the oil pressure switch, and you are good to go. I also described how to swap odometers if you want to keep your mileage correct.

ok...got it figured out...
had to change oil sending unit with one for a guage not the idiot light...
had to run 1 wire from the -side of the coil to the tach.i just put it on the back of the cluster under the screw for d-7
