Installing SR5 clock in my pickup. help

Ok i have a 93 pickup. Its baseline manual everything. I picked up a free oem dash clock out of a 4 runner today and was wondering how i could hook it up and get it to work. I have the plug for the back with about 5in of wire on it.

Has anyone done this and know how? The plug has 4 wires i think.

Any help would be great

See if you can find a Factory Service Manual (FSM) for as close to the year of the donor vehicle for the clock and look up the wire colors in the wiring diagram. 4 wires are typically constant 12 volts for the actual clock, 12 volts for the display, ground and a a dimmer wire that dims the display at night.

My truck is the same way, base everything, manual steering and all. I swapped over to a clock and the plug was already back there so all I had to do is untape the plug and install the clock.

Moved to the 86-95 Trucks & 4Runners section. Was originally posted in Computer Talk.

Your truck should already have the plug for the clock, just locate it and plug it in. I have installed clocks in several truck that never had them.

With or without a factory clock, the harness and plug is there. Usually the factory covers it with a bit of electrical tape. Take off the tape, plug in the clock, punch out the blank that goes where your clock goes, done.

Likely do not need to connect the dimmer wire, that just dims the display when the headlights are on. I think that is one of the wires that go to 12 volts (or it may be ground) when the lights are on, likely the radio has such a wire running to it. Try w/o connecting that wire and if it is OK, run as-is. If it is too bright at night, you could tie the dimmer wire to 12 volts and see if that works OK (might be too dim during the day). If that does not work, find a wire that goes hot with the lights on.

it has pictures and a wiring diagram for this clock. however, i am a little confused because my clock is an analog clock. how will an analog clock keep time if it is powered by an ignition wire without a constant power source? did analog clocks back in old cars tick even when the car was totally off?
Usually those need constant power, just like the digital clocks. The digital clocks usually have additional connections for switched power to run the display and then the dimmer wire to dim the display at night. The analog clock usually has constant 12 volts to run it (3 amp fuse is plenty) and if it has a back light, then a wire for that. And yep, in the good old days, the analog clocks ticked away 24/7, they only pull a milli-amp or so of current.

You need to point out if your looking at the wiring side or accessory. or it gets confusing. Assuming you're looking at the clock not the plug thats about right for the generic toyota clock.

Where is our pictures

Clock looks factory, and the truck looks super clean.

Yeah nice factory look to that clock, can't tell if it had a different face plate for the truck(rear mount) vs car(front mount).

Just an offhand comment too. I think you typoed in your first post. Isn't that an 83 dlx model? Faux wood dash, chrome trim, dlx/sr5 cluster, additional lower guages? I'd reallly hate to think I missed out on the nicer dash layout by just one year I mean it was still ok to be a smoker and have crap on the dash back then.

I got no junk drawer on my dash and the ashtray might as well be on the floor. WHAA!
