Installing new suspension

I think I'm going to buy the 2nd Gen. Lift Kit from the TRD website as mentioned here (Option 2):

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=54794

I was curious of a ballpark figure of time it would take to install this with all the necessary tools.

Thanks, Eric.

Parents.

Alright, sadly within the past 20 minutes... my parents (who obviously don't like the idea of off-roading as much as I) have decided they don't want me to put that much into my vehicle for a small lift. With that said, the shocks still need to be replaced.... What should I replace them with? Thanks, Eric

I'm putting bilistiens on mine. Either 5100's or 5150's. I've heard good thing from people i know who run them.

Alright, cool... One other question... I intend to put this mod on my 4runner tomorrow...

https://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech...irbox/joey.htm

Then later in January once I've put on new shocks, I plan to get a cheap exhaust system. After reading this Borla review, I kinda want to put the same one on, but I don't know how much it costs (yes, even after searching).

https://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech...joey_borla.htm

Should I go with the Borla system if I can find how much it cost?

the borla system is expensive, I think around $600 and not worth the minute power gains. Go to a local (preferably with performance experience) exhaust shop. They can probably do it for under $200.

Alright, cool. In the next couple of years I think I'm going to look to replace my current 3.0 engine. I have a feeling it's going to die soon, but I think it'll last for another 50k with good care. I guess I'm so hyped that I got almost exactly what I wanted that I don't know what to do in whatever order.

Maybe I should make a list.

I want to upgrade to 3.4 this year(almost typed last year). I have 212000 miles and do over 30k a year. so its a good excuse to upgrade in power and gas mileage.

I was thinking that I'd like to find a diesel engine to stick in mine. According to a magazine I read, a 1KZ-TE turbo diesel would be a direct drop into my 91 runner. It apparently was an option overseas but not here. How lame. Any pro's or con's to taking a diesel approach besides the extreme cost of getting it here?

Parts could be hard to get, and you might need to regear or go to taller tires. Diesels run at lower RPM's. but have a ton of torque

pro: you could run biodiesel! (possibly)

actually, i was just wondering aloud the other day if i could do this when my 3.0 --eventually-- goes. hopefully, at just 136k miles, it's just getting broken in though.

Hahaha, I'll look into it and post my findings. My car has 221k so I have to look a bit faster than you sandcrawler .

Who's to say it won't last another 221042.65 miles? My '89 had 270,000 miles, silver truck and some others have over 400k ..

Howdy there Eric.
I just replaced my coils and shocks the other day on my '91. I was still running stock
I purchased the OME 901 coils from Phil (Strap22) and i installed Bilstein shocks that i purchased from performanceproducts4trucks. They were having a 10% off sale.
So far i'm really happy. Couldn't beleive how shot the shocks were. The ride is so nice now.
The coils raised the rear so i don't look funny anymore
Here are a couple pic's.
Before:

After:

It took me about 12 hours to do everything but!!!!
One shock gave me a bad time. It took me about 5 hours to change it out. I didn't have a grinder to cut the nut off so i used my dremmel tool. Over all it was real straight forward. I wish i could have had an extra set of hands but it worked out ok.
I soaked the nuts and this helped alot. I used a strap wrench to hold the shock in place while removing the nuts.

Hope this helps.

Todd

Oh, by the way. I just turned 231,000 and she is still running great.
