Ignition loss above 2k

I readjusted my timing on my 1989 22re to play around and find the best spot for it. I took it on a road trip at 8 degrees and was getting 25mpg. I adjusted it to 10 degrees and I found I lost ignition after shifting high in the rpm range. So I adjusted back to 7 degrees. It was fine for a few days but I was driving to work and I went to shift into second. As soon as my truck went above 2k rpm it lost all ignition and revived at 1.5k. Could it be a bad distributor? I already swapped out the ignition coil, plugs are less than a year old, and the ignition wires are in good shape. I even replaced the ECU a few months ago. Only does this while under load, has no problem revving to 4k when it's in neutral.
