So I left work at 4:30, came home and parked right in the "work on my truck" spot, and tore into it; here's the end result of today after just 2 1/2 hours!































so she sits in the drive way right now, awating me first thing in the morning



there's no way any of this is possible without one of these! this thing saved my arse; I'm glad I picked one up last week!



oh and I use to talk about having 293k miles on the stock shocks all the time; well here's the proof!!!

lmao, a SAS is a little bit out of my buget for this weekend; I still have to pickup the CVs tomorrow, and then pay for the new tires and alignment...

and actually, it was less that 2 1/2 hours; the first 1/2 hour was setting up, jaking the truck up and securing it on jack stands; then after I got knee-deep into it, I had to run up to the store and get a 22mm wrench and socket, cause I have no idea where in the hell mine disappeared to the tools you really need always come up missing...

Nice, Kinda wish I could do that but my IFS is bent to crap. Haha I've had that thing off the ground so many times they can hardly align it anymore, so I'm gonna crank the T-bars all the way up, make some long shackles for the rear and run 35's till I break a CV and SAS.

 

BTW are those KC lights?

I was just going through the new parts, and I discovered I have the wrong front shocks

I have Sensatrack 37072... I need 37070

It's it's really my fault, cause I looked up the parts myself at the store Under a 91, the computer at the store doesn't list a Sensatrack for the front, but it does the rear. I had already decided on Sensatracks for the rear, so I went on the search for the front ones. Now as crazy as this is, the same shocks that a 91 lists also show up on the list of shocks that'll fit a 94, only the 94 ALSO listed a Sensatrack, so I only assumed that it's the same... well it's not...

So I'm calling the store first thing in the morning; hopefully they have 2 of the right ones in stock, and if not, I hope they can get them before maybe noon or 1ish... maybe around the same time my CVs will be in

lol, I had it scare me when the bottom ball joint busted free; the thing went fliying cause of how tight I had it

I now know it's a good idea to keep the nut on the threads a little, to keep things localised, lol

Nice, I have been down that route about 6 months ago and now I am starting the SAS. Did you see if your truck was recalled for the centerlink? I got free inner and outer tierod ends and centerlink for free, thanks to the recall.

Since you have it apart check inside the spindle, you should have two little brass bushings per spindle one on each side. If they are showing signs of wear, replace them while you have it apart.

 

Those ball joint tools are scary, and unnecessary.

A good solid blow to the outer surface whre the ball joint mounts through, and they will pop free.

Looking good though! I plan on doing this eventually on my 86, but I need some fundage beforehand. Though, as wabbit says, you are 1/2 way to a SAS already, why not keep going? Money schmoney.

 

I've decided on the ones I was quoted on by the tire shop that's doing the alignment; cheap ones for now just cause they'll suit my needs; Sumitomo HTR Sport A/T's. Sticking with 31x10.5, for fuel mileage reasons ( I'm on stock gears )

it was on the recall list; the previous owner had the center link replaced via the factory just before I got ahold of the truck, but they didn't touch the TREs, according the the paperwork.

The spindle bushing are in great shape; I R&Red the wheel bearinds and hubs about 6k miles ago and I checked them for play then, and they felt pretty good. Having manual hubs keeps the wear on them to a minumum

 

just looks like you tore the thing down, and left it at that!

 

Try to find the "Three Five" suspension parts for ball joints and tie rods, they are nice! They sometimes come in TRW boxes, or Federal Mogul, or Sankei. They all have '555' cast on them.

 

I leave the nut threaded on a couple turns for that reason. My tie rod ends made big bangs when they broke loose.
