Question Idle problems engine stalling

Hello all! I have a '94 22RE 5-speed with 136k miles and the engine recently starting giving me problems.

As soon as I take my foot off the gas, I hear a clicking noise in the passenger footwell (below the speaker, down near the heater blower motor). The engine starts to die, but if I hit the gas again its fine. Anytime I take my foot off the gas, I hear a single "click" sound, and the engine dies.

I'm thinking its a vaccum leak, but does anybody know what might be causing all this?? Thanks in advance!

That click is the main relay opening. That happends when the engine dies not the cause of it. I would check you TPS as that is directly related to the throttle plate. After that it sounds like it could be your AFM. Pull the codes from the computer and see what it tells you. You can do a search on here for how to check the TPS. Also try unplugging the AFM and plug it back in.

Check all your vacuum lines as well.

Inspect the intake hoses from the AFM to the throttle body for cracks/tears. If there is a big enough leak the AFM door will go to the closed position due to lack of air flow and switch off the fuel pump etc.

I checked the hoses and didn't find any major cracks (just minor wear around the clamps).

Any other ideas?

May not be your problem, but I had the same problem last week, and it turned out to be the DASHPOT.

Vac leaks can be impossible to find by inspection. I prefer a can of carb cleaner / degreaser!

Update: So it turns out that the stalling only happens after the truck has been running a few minutes. Its basically once the temp gauge needle starts to move. Could this have something to do with the thermostat?? Are there any vaccum lines that run from the intake to the thermostat?

The dude at Advanced Auto thought I was crazy when I mentioned spraying carb cleaner on the vacuum lines. What to do!?!? My baby needs help!
