identify this part please, tracking oil leak

Trying to track down a nasty oil leak and on the driver side, on the side of the block there is a goldish in color, round deal there with two hoses coming off of it. One seems to go back into the block(cant really tell). The other goes over to the port that the radiator hose goes onto.

1992 V-6 3.0 motor

Oil seems to be leaking out of that area. Can't tell for sure but doesnt seem to be coming from above it but could be be there is so much dried, nasty oil crap everywhere in that area.

I'll pressure wash tomorrow and try again with clean area. Any ideas, likely suspects where oil could be coming out??

Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Correct, the 2 hoses are for coolant to cool the oil. The large o-ring goes between the cooler and the block, and the small one seals the bolt, which is hollow and feeds the oil into the cooler. It's very common for it to leak as the o-rings get hard and brittle after years of exposure to hot oil.

Thanks guys......one more question.

If I was to pull that thing off now with everything full, I assume that I would have coolant pouring out all over. What about oil? Should I drain everything before I go about pulling off to change the O-rings?

By the way thanks for the pic of the motor on the stand. Worth 1000 words!!!!

You'll lose a bit of coolant but those hoses are fairly small and can be plugged easily. I usually use a small bolt and tighten the clamp back up. As for the oil there is no pressure when the engine isn't running so you'll only lose the small amount in the cooler, which is about half as much as is in an oil filter.
